River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's Soccer team returned to West Campus Field for a top 4 match up in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

How it Happened:
-The Stars put the pedal to the metal early with 3 shots in a span of 3 minutes. The shots came from Seniors
Sierra Rioux and
Kamryn Klinger and Sophomore
Ariana Barney.
-DU kept riding the early pressure and put in Freshman
Logan Shanks who brought the intensity off the bench, collecting 3 shots in her first 3 minutes of the match.
-Shortly after entering the game, Shanks scored just outside the box with the right foot, which gave Dominican an early 1-0 lead. Seniors
Mia Taullahu and
Sarah Borsellino collected the assists on the goal.
-The Stars were itching for me right after the goal with a flurry of shots by Rioux, Shanks, and Klinger. None of them found the back of the net.
-Freshman Lilana Arechiga and Junior
Meghan Wilhite both came in off the bench late in the first half and fired shots but once again did not find the back of the net.
-The score going to the halftime break was 1-0 in favor of DU, with Dominican outshooting CUW 17-2 in the first half.
-The second half started chaotic and continued chaotic for the whole 45 minutes. The Falcons brought the intensity to start the second half and earned a shot that missed the target.
-The Stars then had another flurry of shots that all were on target, by Shanks, Rioux, Seniors
Natalia Lopez and
Sarah Matuszek, and Sophomore
Tia Garr. The Falcon keeper made the save on all of them.
-Reigning NACC Defensive Player of the Week Sophomore
Gianna Stanek was injured halfway through the second half but cleared protocols and returned to the match, where she made some incredible saves, but none bigger than the one in the 79
th minute with a diving effort to keep the Stars in front.
-Dominican continued to fire shots on target that were all saved by the CUW keeper. Shots were sent by Senior
Mia Dosen, Matuszek, Rioux, Garr and Lopez.
-The final 15 minutes of the match hit with CUW scratching for the equalizer, but Stanek stood on business, making 3 saves in the final 12 minutes of play to make sure Dominican got the 1-0 victory.
-The Stars outshot the Falcons 31-11 in the match. 13 of those shots were on target.
-Dominican also collected 10 corner kicks.
Shining Stars:
-Freshman
Logan Shanks came in off the bench and earned Star of the Match deservingly so, scoring the game-winning goal in the 25
th minute of the match. Shanks also recorded 3 shots on target with 7 total shots.
-Senior
Sarah Borsellino collected one of the assists on the goal and added 2 shots with a shot on frame.
-Senior
Mia Taullahu collected an assist on the goal.
-Senior Sarah Rioux had the second highest amount of shots in the match with 6 of them; one was on frame.
-Sophomore
Tia Garr had both of her shots on target.
-Senior
Sarah Matuszek battled all game, including battling through a bloody nose in her 79 minutes of play. Matuszek collected 2 shots on frame in those minutes.
-Despite leaving for 9 minutes of the match Sophomore
Gianna Stanek collected 5 saves and did not allow a goal for her third straight start.
-Sophomore
Meadow Pratt made a save in her 9 minutes of play.

What's Next:
Dominican University Women's Soccer improves to 6-3-1 (4-1 NACC) on the season and is currently riding a 5-game win streak. The Stars will take a week off from game play before hosting Aurora University on October 8
th. Kick-off between the Stars and Spartans is set for 3:00 p.m. at West Campus Field.
