Porada's Two Goals Push Stars Past Muskies

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Men's Soccer team continued their three-game homestand by hosting Lakeland University on Saturday.


Results:

How It Happened:
-Senior Brendan Gavin had a shot denied by the Muskies' keeper in the first minute.
-In the 11th minute, Sophomore Jonathan Almaguer rifled a low shot from the top of the box but was denied from the back of the net.
-After DU won a corner in the 19th minute, Junior Ciaran Geraghty played the ball to Almaguer, who whipped a cross into the box and found the head of Junior Nicholas Porada, who guided home his first of the season, giving Dominican a 1-0 lead.
-The Muskies equalized in the 25th minute.
-Pressing to break the deadlock, Junior Brenton DuBoise had a shot saved.
-Dominican and Lakeland went into the break knotted at 1-1.
-To open the second half, Porada had an effort on goal denied.
-In the 60th minute, Porada scored his 2nd of the game after being set up in the box by Junior Tristen Banquil and Freshman Vinni DaSilva.
-DaSilva had a shot on target saved in the 64th minute.
-Freshman Cody Leyba made his first save of the contest in the 73rd minute, preserving the 2-1 Stars lead.
-DU was able to run out the rest of the clock and walk away with the win by a final of 2-1, snapping a four-game winless streak.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Nicholas Porada notched a brace for Dominican and added 3 shots on target.
-Sophomore Jonathan Almaguer recorded an assist and a shot on target.
-Freshman Vinni DaSilva posted an assist and a shot on target.
-Junior Ciaran Geraghty collected an assist and logged all 90 minutes.
-Junior Tristen Banquil fired two shots and an assist.

Dominican University Men's Soccer improves to 5-7-3 (5-3-1 NACC) on the season. The Stars close their three-game homestand against Benedictine University on Wednesday, October 22nd. Kick-off at West Campus Field will be at 3:00 p.m.
