Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Grit Out 1-0 Win

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Men's Soccer team wrapped up their three-game homestand with a pivotal conference matchup against Benedictine on Wednesday.


Results:
Dominican: 1
Benedictine: 0

How It Happened:
-Junior Nicholas Porada had Dominican's first chance of the afternoon, but his run-in on goal was denied by the Eagles' keeper in the 5th minute.
-In the 35th minute, Senior Ryan Gutierrez had a low-driven shot beckoned for the corner turned away.
-Both squads went into the break knotted at 0-0. DU held a slight advantage, 6-4.
-Porada had another attempt on goal saved as the Stars continued to press for an opener.
-In the 52nd minute, after a mad scramble in the box, the ball found Freshman Rogelio Cisneros just outside the box. Cisneros settled and picked his spot over the Benedictine keeper to give Dominican a 1-0.
-Cisneros was determined to get an insurance marker, tallying 3 shots on target between the 55th and 56th minutes.
-Freshman Cody Leyba made his first save of the game in the 69th minute, denying BenU an equalizer.
-The Stars, desperate to cling to the lead, forced 2 yellows by Benedictine in the final 15 minutes.
-Dominican walked away with the crucial win in the playoff race by a final of 1-0.

Shining Stars:
-Freshman Rogelio Cisneros scored his first collegiate goal in what proved to be the difference maker for the Stars. Cisneros also added 4 shots on target.
-Freshman Vinni DaSilva registered 5 shots.
-Junior Nicholas Porada fired 3 shots, with 2 finding the target.
-Senior Ryan Gutierrez recorded a shot on target and played all 90 minutes.
-Freshman Cody Leyba and Freshman Joshua Memmelaar combined for the clean sheet.
