Dominican Falls 3-1 in the Second Straight Match

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's volleyball team hosted the Benedictine University Eagles for their second straight match in the Igini Sports Forum.

Match 1:
Benedictine: 3
Dominican: 1

How it Happened:
-Dominican started the match strong, trading points with Benedictine. Senior Veronica Henkel and Ellery Shea each picked up 3 kills in the set, but DU lost the first set 25-14.
-DU had 8 total kills in the first set on 26 total attempts.
-The Stars were fueled by the middles in the second set, with Junior Kathryn Ksiezak earning two kills and Junior Jillian Ross picking up a kill. BenU pulled away though in the set and took a 2-0 lead, winning the second set 25-16.
-Dominican collected another 8 kills in the second set, this time on 24 attempts, but could not overcome 8 attacking errors in the set.
-DU needing to win the third set to continue the match fed off some early momentum when Shea buried three straight kills to tie the 3rd set at 5.
-Late in the set, DU and BenU were tied at 16 before the Stars had three straight kills, all by different players. The first was by Senior Lola Burlter, the second by Ksiezak, and the final by Freshman Karolina Stonkus, giving Dominican a 19-17 lead.
-Once again, the set was tied, this time at 22, before Shea took matters into her own hands with three straight kills of her own to continue the match for DU.
-The Stars doubled their kill total in this set with 16 total kills in the third set.
-The fourth set started like the rest of the sets, back-and-forth, until the Eagles went on a run to make the score 10-6.
-Shea continued to try to bring Dominican back into the match, but Benedictine's offense was too much as the pull to a 25-16 victory and win 3 sets to 1.
-DU offense sputtered in the final set, only collecting 7 kills on 22 total attacks, collecting 39 kills in total for the match.
