Stars Bounce Back in Road Win Against Alverno

Milwaukee, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's Volleyball team got back on the road for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match in Milwaukee.

Match 1:
Dominican: 3
Alverno: 1


How it Happened:
-Dominican fell behind early, losing the first set 25-22, but Junior Kathryn Ksiezak collected 3 kills in the first set.
-The Stars had 9 kills out of 36 total attacks and could not overcome 8 attacking errors.
-Senior Veronica Henkel got DU going on the right foot in the second set, collecting 3 straight kills, which helped Dominican take an early 8-4 lead.
-The Stars found themselves up 16-9 before Alverno struck a 6-0 run to make the score 16-15.
-DU then found themselves down 22-20 before Sophomore Fabiana Pizzo hit back-to-back service aces to give the Stars a 25-22 set two victory.
-Dominican collected 11 kills as a team in the second set.
-Senior Ellery Shea found her stride in the third set in a crucial way, collecting 5 kills in the set.
-The Stars found themselves facing set point, being 24-22, before Freshman Karolina Stonkus hit two straight kills to tie the set up at 24.
-Dominican and Alverno going back-and-forth needing a push when Henkel had two kills out of the final three points to give the Stars a 30-28 set win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
-DU had their best offensive set in the third set, hitting at a clip of .222 percent.
-The fourth set started like the others, trading points until Dominican found 7 straight points to take a 17-10 lead. In this stretch Stonkus collected 2 service aces, while Shea and Senior Lola Butler each collected a kill.
-Once again, the Inferno clawed their way back into the match, making the score 23-20, until Henkel and Shea had the final three kills of the match, giving Dominican a 25-23 set win and winning the match 3-1.
-The Stars put away 13 kills in the fourth set.

Shining Stars:
-Senior Ellery Shea led the way for the Stars, collecting 16 kills in the match, along with 2 service aces and 12 digs.
-Senior Veronica Henkel continued being a leader on this team, collecting 14 kills with a service ace and 20 digs.
-Junior Kathryn Ksiezak had 8 kills in the middle while having a .313 hitting percentage. Ksiezak also collected 4 blocks.
-Freshman Karolina Stonkus was incredible today for the Stars with 42 assists and 5 service aces. Stonkus also added 2 kills and 7 digs.
-Sophomore Fabiana Pizzo had 17 digs and 3 service aces in the match.

What's Next:
Dominican University Women's Volleyball moves to 2-11 (1-2 NACC) on the season. The Stars will be right back in action on Thursday night when the Regents of Rockford University travel to the Igini Sports Forum. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
