Stars Fall in Four to WLC

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's volleyball team returned home for a matinee match against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday.

Result:
Dominican: 1
Wisconsin Lutheran: 3

How it Happened:
-WLC opened the match with a 5-0 run, but Senior Ellery Shea posted a kill and an ace to bring DU back to within 3.
-The Stars jumped in front at the midpoint of the set with a 15-11 lead after back-to-back kills by Shea.
-After both squads were tied at 20-20, Dominican was able to close out the opening set 28-26 after a kill by Senior Veronica Henkel. Shea had 6 kills and an ace to open the match.
-The Warriors opened the second set strong, taking a 12-4 lead.
-DU fought back to 20-12 later in the set after a 5-0 run by Henkel.
-Wisconsin Lutheran knotted the match at one set apiece after taking Set 2, 25-15.
-After both teams posted lengthy runs to start the third set, Dominican would find themselves behind 15-11.
-Through strong blocking by Junior Kathryn Ksiezak and Freshman Karolina Stonkus, DU clawed their way back into Set 4, but came up short 25-22.
-WLC opened the fourth set with a 9-2 advantage.
-After bringing the match to 11-10 thanks to back-to-back blocks by Ksiezak, Dominican could not keep up with the Warriors' offense and fell in the fourth frame by a final of 25-13. Ksiezak collected 3 blocks in the final frame.

Shining Stars:
-Senior Ellery Shea paced Dominican offensively, collecting 11 kills, 4 aces, and 7 digs.
-Junior Kathryn Ksiezak recorded 3 kills and a career-high 8 blocks.
-Freshman Karolina Stonkus dished 19 assists and posted 3 aces.
-Sophomore Fabiana Pizzo notched 12 digs.
-Senior Veronica Henkel had 6 kills on .300 hitting alongside 2 aces, 2 blocks, and 4 digs.

What's Next:
Dominican University Women's Volleyball is now 2-17 (1-8 NACC) on the season. The Stars are back on the road Thursday, October 30th, to take on Concordia Wisconsin. The first serve between DU and CUW will be at 6:00 p.m.
