Stars Fall in Opener of Bruce Wilson Shootout to Simpson

Indianola, Iowa. – The Dominican University Men's Basketball team opened the Bruce Wilson Shootout against the hosts, Simpson College, on Friday.

Results:
Dominican: 72
Simpson: 82

 How it Happened:
 -After a tight start to the game, DU had its first lead five minutes in after Sophomore Braydon Murphy connected from deep.
 -Dominican and Simpson traded buckets through the midpoint of the first half, as Junior Antony Fernandez hit a three, followed by a layup from Freshman Elijah Daugherty to cut the Simpson lead to 19-18.
 -The Storm ballooned to a 28-18 lead with 9 minutes to go in the first half, but their 7-0 run was stopped by a mid-range jumper by Senior Dominic Crapia.
 -Daugherty and Sophomore Ismael Nidaye Matheu ultimately cut the Simpson lead to 47-38 heading into halftime.
 -Despite solid offensive rebounding from Freshman Chase LeFevre to begin the second half, the Stars trailed 59-46 5 minutes into the second half.
 -Once Sophomore Frank Paszkowski got a layup on the fast break to go at the 13-minute mark, Dominican began to chip away at the Storm's lead, as Sophomore Emmanuel Fuller added a layup and Paskowski knocked down a three. DU trailed 61-53 with 11 minutes to go.
 -Another Paskowski three with 6 minutes left brought the Stars within four, now down 67-63.
 -Senior Adrian Pelszynski battled to get to the line with four minutes to go and made it a one-possession game, with Simpson leading 69-67 with just over 4 minutes left to play.
 -The Stars fought to keep themselves within a few possessions down the stretch, but the Storm ultimately pulled away, handing DU an 82-72 loss.
 -Dominican shot 39.1% from the field, 33.3% from three, and 60.0% from the free throw line.
 -DU continues to have a well-rounded effort from the squad, as 30 of the Stars' points came from the bench compared to Simpson's 26.

 Shining Stars:
 -Freshman Elijah Daugherty led the way for the Stars, dropping 16 points on 6-10 from the floor alongside 2 assists.    
 -Sophomore Braydon Murphy collected 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
 -Senior Adrian Pelszynski notched 13 points and 3 boards.
 -Senior Dominic Crapia had 8 points, 3 steals, and 6 rebounds.

 What's Next:
 The Dominican University Men's Basketball team moves to 0-3 on the season. The Stars will play in the consolation game of the Bruce Wilson Shootout against North Central (MN) tomorrow, November 22nd, at 1:00 p.m.
