Dominican Loses in Second Game of Back-to-Back

Monmouth, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's Basketball team traveled to Monmouth College for their second game in two days on Sunday afternoon.

 Results:
Dominican: 59
Monmouth: 71

 How it Happened:
-The Stars got rolling with Freshman Kennedy Yost getting the scoring going in the first 30 seconds of the game.
-After this, the Stars and the Scots traded baskets for the first quarter of play, with Freshman Allannah Jackson collecting 5 points and Junior Kaitlyn Milison adding 3 points to her name, even though DU was down 16-14 after the first quarter of play.
-Yost fired up Dominican early in the second quarter, scoring the first 5 points of the quarter and igniting a 16-7 run for the Stars.
-Juniors Lia Saunders and Teagan Dahl both chipped in on the scoring run. Saunders scored 5 s during this stretch, and Yost collected 7, including the first 5. Dominican led 30-23 after the run.
-Monmouth went on a run to end the half to get the DU lead to just 2 points at the break.
-The Stars shot 42.1% from the floor in the second half and shot 36.1% from the floor in the first half.
-Dominican kept their foot on the gas after the halftime break, with a 14-2 run in the first four minutes of the third quarter. Saunders, Jackson, and Yost scored all the points during this run.
The DU lead got up to 13 points with under five minutes to play in the third quarter, but the Scots stormed back from their going on their own run and took a 54-51 lead to the fourth quarter.
-Despite being outscored in the third quarter, the Stars shot an incredible 61.54% from the floor in the third quarter.
-The first five points for DU were scored from the charity stripe with Dahl going 3-4 and Junior Olivia Genthner going 2-2.
-Dominican had a 56-54 lead with under seven minutes to play, and then the Scots went on a 9-0 run that was ended with under three minutes left in the quarter.
-Saunders got the final three points for DU, but it was not enough to overcome the late run from Monmouth.
-The Stars shot 33.8% from the floor in the game and 13 second-chance points compared to Monmouth's 6.
-There were 13 lead changes, and the game was tied 8 times through the duration of the game.

 Shining Stars:
 -Junior Lia Saunders is continuing her stellar season with 17 points. Saunders also collected 3 steals, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.
-Freshman Kennedy Yost picked up a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
-Freshman Allannah Jackson was on triple-double watch with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Jackson also collected 2 steals in this one.
-Junior Teagan Dahl flirted with a double-double, collecting 11 points and 8 rebounds. 4 of those rebounds were on the offensive end for Dahl. The junior recorded a stat in every category she could, with 1 steal, 1 block, and an assist to go along with her points and rebounds.

 What's Next:
 Dominican University Women's Basketball falls to 4-5 on the 2025-2026 season and 0-3 in NACC play. DU will be right back in action Tuesday, December 16, for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off against Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, Wis.
