Stars Come Up Short at Benedictine

Lisle, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's Basketball team traveled to Lisle to take on the Eagles of Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon.

 Results:
Dominican: 72
Benedictine: 79

 How it Happened:
-After Benedictine opened the game on a 6-0 run, Dominican cut into the lead after a jumper by Junior Aya Deiri and a three by Junior Lia Saunders on the fast break.
-Saunders knocked down another three to give DU a 10-9 lead, and after each team traded buckets toward the end of the quarter, BenU led 23-16 at the end of the first.
-Dominican sprinted out of the games to start the second quarter, going on a 10-0 run, highlighted by 5 points by Junior Teagan Dahl.
-Threes by Dahl and Deiri extended the Stars' lead to 36-27 at the midpoint of the second frame.
-Sophomore Allannah Jackson and Sophomore Maya Kasuboski contributed to the Dominican lead, which read 43-34 at the end of the first half. The Stars' offense exploded for 27 points in the second.
-DU continued to fend off the Eagles in the third, as Jackson knocked down a shot from deep to keep the DU lead at 49-41.
-Benedictine ended the quarter on a 5-0 run and took a 57-53 lead into the final frame.
-Saunders tried to will DU back into the lead, scoring 11 points throughout the fourth.
-Dominican could not complete the comeback and fell by a final score of 79-72.
-The Stars shot 46.0% from the field, 47.4% from three, and 38.5% from the line.

 Shining Stars:
 -Junior Lia Saunders posted a career-high 24 points on 10-17 shooting and was 4-8 from three.
-Junior Teagan Dahl notched 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals.
-Sophomore Allannah Jackson contributed 9 points and 5 steals.
-Junior Aya Deiri added 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
-Freshman Kennedy Yost tallied 6 points and 9 rebounds.

 What's Next:
 Dominican University Women's Basketball falls to 3-3 on the 2025-2026 season and 0-2 in NACC play. DU returns home to take on River Forest rival Concordia Chicago on Wednesday, December 10th. Tip-off between the Stars and Cougars is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
