No. 19 Stars Fall in Five Sets in Bloomington

Bloomington, Ill. – Dominican University Men's Volleyball traveled to Bloomington to take on Illinois Wesleyan in a non-conference clash on Thursday night.
 
 Results:
  Dominican: 2
  Illinois Wesleyan: 3

  How it Happened:
  -The Stars would use a 5-0 serving run from Senior Tanner Dahman to take a 9-7 lead in the 1st set.
  -DU would be able to squeak out Set 1 25-23. Senior Casey Goss totaled 4 kills in the frame.
  - Illinois Wesleyan would bounce back in the 2nd set and take it 22-25 despite a late push 5-0 run from DU. Freshman Landon Diaz registered 3 blocks in the set with Goss adding 7 kills and 2 blocks of his own.
  -A 2-6 run in the middle of Set 3 for IWU would propel the Warriors to a 20-25 win in the 3rd. Freshman Kendall Esparza notched 2 assists in the frame.
  -Dominican would push the match to a 5th set after claiming Set 4, 25-22. Sophomore Ty Geschke finished with 6 kills and an ace in the 4th.
  -After taking a 7-4 lead in the 5th set, the Stars could not close out IWU and would drop the set and the match, 13-15. Geschke added 5 kills in the frame with Senior Aaron Marrs and Senior Jason Kougan combining for a block.
  -DU hit .216 collectively in the match and had 10 blocks to IWU's 7.

  Shining Stars:
  -Senior Casey Goss was at the forefront of the Dominican attack tallying 19 kills and 10 digs. 
  -Sophomore Ty Geschke notched 11 kills on .364 hitting.
  -Freshman Landon Diaz collected 9 kills and 6 total blocks in his first collegiate appearance.
  -Senior Owen Morrow distributed 29 assists in the defeat.
  -Freshman Kendall Esparza provided 9 kills on a .364 hitting percentage.

  What's Next:
  Dominican University Men's Volleyball is now 2-4 on the season. The Stars will be back at home on Saturday, February 8th to take on No. 6 Carthage College for KP's NCAA DIII Game of the Week. The first serve will be at 2:00 p.m.
