Winter Haven, Fla. – The Dominican University softball team was back in action this morning with a doubleheader after a day off, on their spring break trip. The Stars played Bethany Lutheran College in the first game, and a game with Mount St. Josephs directly after.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 5
Bethany Lutheran: 3
How it Happened:
-The Vikings of Bethany Lutheran got the party going in the top of the first with a solo home run, making the score 1-0.
-Dominican got on the board in the bottom of the 2
nd inning with Sophomore
Kailee Diaz Randall hitting an RBI double to the left-center gap to tie the game up at 1.
-Starting pitcher
Emma Woodhouse got herself out of a two-on, one-out jam with a pop-up to first base caught by Senior
Gillian Czubernat and a flyout to right field caught by Junior
Paytin Salfi.
-DU took the lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning with Freshman
Madisen Butler coming up clutch with another pinch-hit RBI single up the middle, driving in Freshman
Raegyn Davis and Sophomore
Charlize Gonzalez. The Stars were not done there with Freshman
Kayla Amormino getting her first collegiate RBIs with a double to left field, making the score 5-1 in favor of Dominican.
-Bethany Lutheran got a run back in the top of the 6
th inning scoring a run on two hits in the inning.
-Woodhouse shuts the door on the Vikings after BLC scratches a run across in the bottom of the 7
th. Dominican holds on for a 5-3 win.
Shining Stars:
-Freshman
Raegyn Davis led the Stars going 2-3 with a run scored.
-Senior
Emma Woodhouse threw a complete game for the Stars earning her second win of the season and her second save. Woodhouse collected 2 strikeouts and only gave up 2 earned runs.
-Sophomore
Kailee Diaz Randall was a big spark offensively going 1-2 with an RBI and a walk.
-Freshman
Kayla Amormino went 1-2 picked up her first collegiate RBI, and finished the game with two RBIs.
-Freshman
Madisen Butler once again came up clutch with a pinch-hit RBI single. Butler went 1-1 with 2 RBIs

How it Happened:
-Dominican got on the board first with Freshman
Raegyn Davis grounding out to the first basemen, bringing in Freshman
Isabella Olmos from third base.
-The Stars added to their 1-0 lead in the top of the 2
nd inning with a three-run home run by Olmos to left field bringing in Senior
Gillian Czubernat and Freshman
Kayla Amormino.
-DU threatened to score more in the top of the second inning, with runners on second and third with two outs but was unable to get another run across going into the bottom of the second leading 4-0.
-Dominican kept the homerun parade rolling with Freshman
Sara Cornell knocking her first collegiate homerun as a two-run shot. Sophomore pinch-runner

-DU did not get a run across in the top of the fourth inning even with Olmos hitting a lead-off single to left field.
-Freshman starting pitcher
Rhiannon Rubio got herself out of a jam in the bottom of the fourth inning with the help of all of her fielders, but especially a spectacular play by the Senior shortstop Liliana Santoyo.
-The Lions of Mount St. Joseph stormed back in the bottom of the 5
th inning scoring 5 runs on 5 hits.
-Senior
Emma Woodhouse came into the game in the bottom of the 6
th inning to record a 5-out save and her second save of the day!
Shining Stars:
-Freshman
Isabella Olmos was amazing for DU going 3-5 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases, and her first collegiate homerun that went over the fence.
-Freshman
Sara Cornell had a perfect day at the plate going 3-3 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, a double, and her first collegiate homerun.
-Junior
Ryley Davis went 2 for 4
-Freshman
Rhiannon Rubio started in the circle for the Stars and pitched 4.2 innings pitched with 3 strikeouts.
-Freshman
Hannah Richards entered the ball game and got two outs for DU in a big-time spot.
-Senior
Emma Woodhouse earned her second save of the day getting 5-outs and picking up a strikeout.

The Dominican University softball will be right back on the diamond Thursday morning with two games. The first game will be Dominican vs Emmanuel College (Mass.) at 9:00 a.m. ET, the second game of the day for DU will be against Simmons University at 11:15 a.m. ET
