Winter Haven, Fla. – The Dominican University baseball team was back in action Thursday morning after two days of rest in Florida.

Northland:

How it Happened:
-Both schools were held scoreless in the first inning, but the Jacks of Northland College put up 6 runs in the top of the second inning on 4 hits and two Dominican errors.
-The Stars scratched a run across in the bottom half of the second inning with Senior
Braiden Galvin hitting an RBI single over the second basemen's head, scoring Senior
Ryan Schmidt.
-DU continued to find runs in the third inning with Senior
Matthew Earley hitting an RBI double to left center field, scoring Junior
Zach Helein. Dominican was looking for more in the bottom in third, with runners on second and third with less than two outs, but were unable to score. At the end of the three innings, Northland College held a 6-2 lead.
-The Stars threatened in the bottom of the 6
th inning getting the bases loaded with one out, and were unable to score.
-Freshman
Ethan Buckner came into the game for DU in the 2
nd inning and has only given up two hits through 5 innings pitched, and has collected 5 strikeouts. Buckner kept the momentum on the DU side getting the Jacks to go three-up three-down in the 7
th inning.
-Dominican used the momentum by Bucker with Schmidt hitting a three-run homerun to get the score within one. Senior
Quinton Schwartz and Earley both scored on the home run.
-DU went into the bottom of the 9
th inning facing a 6-5 deficit.
-Junior
Tyler Johnson came into pinch-hit for the Stars and tied the game up at 6 with a solo homerun to left-centerfield.
-Freshman
Koufax Cranmer shut down Northland College in the top of the 10
th inning, having the Jacks go three-up, three-down.
-Earley came to the plate with runners on first and third with two outs and delivered a base hit to the shortstop to win it in extras for DU.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Zach Helein found his bat this morning, leading the Stars and going 3-5 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and 5 stolen bases.
-Senior
Matthew Earley had his best game offensively in a DU uniform going 3-6 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, 2 doubles, and hitting the walk-off single.
-Senior
Ryan Schmidt went 1-3 hitting a 3-run homerun and scoring 2 runs, with 2 walks.
-Junior
Tyler Johnson came in clutch for Dominican hitting a pinch-hit solo homerun to tie the game up.
-Freshman
Ethan Buckner came in relief for DU and was stellar on the bump. Buckner went 5.2 with 6 strikeouts and only allowed 2 hits.

What's Next:
Dominican University Baseball improved to 5-3 on the season, and has three more games in Florida. The Stars will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader against the Lions of Mount St. Joseph starting at 12:45 p.m. ET.
