Auburndale, Fla. – The Dominican University baseball team played a doubleheader against the Lions of Mount St. Josephs for their 5
th gameday in Florida.
Game 1 Results:
Mount St. Josephs: 10
Dominican: 2
How it Happened:
-Mount St. Josephs started the scoring in the top of the first inning scoring 2 runs on 3 hits.
-The Lions added two more in the bottom of the second inning on two hits, making the score 4-0.
-Dominican got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning with Senior
Gavin Zappe scoring on a wild pitch.
-MSJ added another two runs on three hits in the bottom half of the third inning.
-Senior
Quinton Schwartz gave the Stars another run on an RBI single to left center field, scoring Junior
Zach Helein.
-Mount St. Joseph made it scoring in four straight innings with a three-run homerun to left field, making the score 9-2.
-The Lions added their 10
th run in the 5
th on a hit.
-DU was unable to get any more runners across the plate, falling 10-2 in game one against MSJ.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Quinton Schwartz led the Stars going 1-3 with an RBI.
-Junior
Zach Helein went 1-2 with 2 walks and a run scored.
-Sophomore
Ty Phillips recorded 2 walks.

How it Happened:
-The Lions once again got the party started in the top of the first inning scoring two runs on a hit.
-Dominican was able to tie the ball game up in their half of the first inning, with Junior
Tyler Johnson hitting a sacrifice fly to right field and Graduate Student
Grayson Downing coming around to score. Junior
Matthew Earley followed it up with a sacrifice fly of his own to left field and Junior
Zach Helein came around to score.
-The Stars added two more in the bottom of the second inning, the first run came off the bat of Helein on a grounder to third base, and Senior
Ryan Schmidt scored. The second run was on an RBI single to left field by Junior
Niko Krecu and Senior
CJ Kalekas scoring.
-DU put up a crooked number in the fourth scoring, 4 runs on 3 hits. The first run was delivered by Krecu hitting an RBI double to left field. Senior
Quinton Schwartz followed it up with an RBI single to center field scoring Krecu. The last two runs of the inning came on a bunt from Senior
AJ Davies that was thrown into right field, and scoring Schwartz and Earley.
-MSJ hit a solo homerun in the top of the 6
th inning to get the score to 8-3 in favor of Dominican.
-Davies got the run back in the bottom half of the sixth with a sac fly to right field.
-The Lions did not go away quietly in the final inning of play scoring 4 runs on only 1 hit, but Senior
Spencer Anton was able to shut the door and get DU the win.

Matthew Hannafin started the game for Dominican and went 6 innings while collecting 4 strikeouts.
-Junior
Niko Krecu went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, and a walk with a double.

Zach Helein continued his hot bat going 2-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
