Stars Fall on the Road at Benedictine

Lisle, Ill. – The Dominican University Baseball team traveled to Benedictine University to open up back-to-back road series.

Game 1 Results:
Benedictine: 18
Dominican: 8

How it Happened:
-BenU struck first scoring 2 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the first inning.
-The Stars got on the board in the top of the third inning tying the game up at 2. Junior Zach Helein hit a single that brought in Senior Michael Christopher. Junior Matthew Earley brought in Helein on a ground ball to third base.
-The game did not remain tied for long as the Eagles scored a run on a hit in their half of the third inning.
-Dominican responded quickly taking the lead in the top of the fourth. Senior Gavin Zappe tied the game up with an RBI double to right field, scoring Freshman Marco Stawski. Helein gave DU the lead with an RBI single to left that brought home Zappe.
-Benedictine responded by scoring a run on a hit in the bottom of the fourth inning, the scoring being 4-4 after 4 innings of play.
-BenU found more offense in the fifth scoring 3 runs on 5 hits.
-In the 6th inning Dominican grabbed the lead back by scoring 4 runs on two hits in the inning. Helein brought in Senior Braiden Galvin on a ball hit to shortstop that was an error. Earley came up right after and knocked in Sophomore Ty Phillips and Zappe. Junior Niko Krecu hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Helein.   
-The Eagles once again found an answer scoring 3 runs on 3 hits in their half of the 6th.
-Benedictine exploded in the 7th scoring 8 runs on 7 hits ending the game in 7 innings.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Zach Helein went 2-5 with 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.
-Junior Matthew Earley went 1-3 with a walk, and 3 RBIs.
-Senior Gavin Zappe went 1-3 with a walk, an RBI, and 2 runs scored.

Game 2 Results:

How it Happened:
-Benedictine once again struck first scoring 2 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the first inning.
-The Eagles added 2 more runs on 3 hits in the second inning.
-BenU extended their lead on 2 hits in the third inning.
-Benedictine continued to excel offensively scoring 4 runs on 2 hits in the fourth, making the score 9-0.
-The Eagles added 9 more runs to their total on 6 hits in the 6th inning.

What's Next:
Dominican University Baseball falls to 11-14 overall, 4-8 in the NACC, and 3-6 away from Wintrust field. The Stars will be right back in action Saturday afternoon, as DU will be at MSOE for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch against the Raiders.
