Dominican Splits With Non-Conference Opponent Lake Forest College

Rosemont, Ill. – The Dominican University Softball team took their 8-game win streak into a non-conference game against Lake Forest College Wednesday evening.


Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 8
Lake Forest: 0

How it Happened:
-The Stars got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Freshman Isabella Olmos got the scoring going with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Senior Liliana Santoyo. Junior Ryley Davis followed it up with a RBI single to right field that brought home her younger sister Freshman Raegyn Davis.
-Dominican doubled their lead in the second with Santoyo hitting a 2 RBI single to center field, scoring Freshman Sara Cornell and Sophomore Kailee Diaz Randall.
-DU exploded on the offensive side scoring 4 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman Kayla Amormino brought in the first run on a single to right field that scored Senior Emma Woodhouse. Santoyo followed it up with an RBI single to left scoring Amormino. Rae. Davis continued the party hitting an RBI single to left field that scored Santoyo. Ry. Davis brought in the 8th run of the game for the Stars on an RBI single that brought home Senior Gillian Czubernat.
-Dominican's starter Emma Woodhouse headed into the final inning of play with not allowing a hit and with 6 strikeouts. Lake Forest earned their first hit of the game on a bunt single but the Senior Woodhouse did not let that phase her as she finished the job in the circle.  

Shining Stars:
-Senior Emma Woodhouse went 5 complete shutout innings improving her record to 10-3 on the season. Woodhouse added 7 strikeouts to her name and only allowed 1 hit in her 5 innings of work. At the plate the Senior went 1-2 with a run scored.
-Senior Liliana Santoyo swung a hot bat at the plate in the first game going 2-2 with a walk, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.
-Junior Ryley Davis found her swing again going 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a double.
-Freshman Raegyn Davis went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Freshman Isabella Olmos went 1-2 with an RBI.

How it Happened:
-The Foresters took the shutout personally and got on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo homerun.
-The Stars took the lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Freshman Madisen Butler brought home the first run on an RBI single to center field that scored Freshman Isabella Olmos. Freshman Sara Cornell gave DU the lead on an RBI double to center field that scored Senior Gillian Czubernat.
-The score remained 2-1 in favor of Dominican until the top of the sixth when Lake Forest scored and tied up the game on a run a hit and took advantage of 2 DU errors.  
-Both teams failed to score in the 7th and free softball was delivered to the fans at The Stadium of the Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
-This is when the Foresters offense found their stride scoring 4 runs on 4 hits.
-Dominican continued to struggle at the plate in their half of the 8th going three-up and three-down, and only earning 2 hits in the final 6 innings of the game snapping the 9-game win streak.

Shining Stars:
-Sophomore Liberty Rivard made her first of the season and picked up where she has left off going 6 innings and only allowed 1 earned run with 3 strikeouts.
-Freshman Hannah Richards came in to relief and pitched an inning and a third and collected 2 strikeouts.
-Freshman Sara Cornell went 1-3 with a double and an RBI
-Freshman Madisen Butler went 1-2 with an RBI.

What's Next:
Dominican University Softball moves to 18-6 on the season and 6-2 on their home turf. The Stars will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to De Pere, Wisconsin, to face-off against NACC opponent St. Norbert College. First pitch between the Stars and the Green Knights will be at 2:00 p.m.
