Schaumburg, Ill. – Dominican University Baseball was back at Wintrust Field for a non-conference standalone contest against Loras College.

How it Happened:
-The Stars opened the floodgates in the bottom of the first inning, after a lead-off triple by Sophomore
Ty Phillips led to him scoring on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Senior
Gavin Zappe brought home Junior
Zach Helein, and Junior
Matthew Earley scored on a wild pitch after Senior
Braiden Galvin was walked, all giving DU a 3-0 lead after a lengthy first inning due to a rain delay.
-Dominican continued to add to their lead after Junior
Niko Krecu drove in Helein with a double, extending the Stars lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second.
-The Duhawks answered with two runs of their own in the top of the third.
-In the bottom of the fourth inning, a two RBI single by Zappe, followed by an RBI single by Senior
CJ Kalekas pushed the Dominican lead to 7-2.
-Loras fired back with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, making it a 7-4 ball game.
-In the top of the sixth, the Duhawks hit their second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot and tied the game at 7-7.
-Dominican was able to regain the lead at 10-7 in the bottom of the sixth after Helein knocked in two runs with a single to center field, followed by a sacrifice fly from Earley which scored Phillips.
-Loras cut the DU lead to 10-8 after scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.
-The Stars were able to shut the door on the Duhawk offense over the final two innings, as Freshman
Alex Voegele allowed only one hit over the final six outs.
-Dominican walked away from Wintrust Field with a 10-8 victory, snapping their six-game losing skid.
-DU had 11 hits and 2 errors in the ballgame.

Zach Helein reached base in every at-bat, going 3-3 with 2 RBIs, 2 walks, and 3 runs scored.
-Senior
Braiden Galvin finished 2-4 with an RBI and a walk.
-Senior
Gavin Zappe was 1-3 with 3 RBIs.

CJ Kalekas went 2-2 with an RBI and 2 walks.
-Sophomore
Ty Phillips continued his strong season with a triple and 3 walks.

What's Next:
Dominican University Baseball improves to 12-16 on the season while remaining 4-10 in conference play. The Stars will be back at home on Saturday, April 19
th for a return to NACC play against Wisconsin Lutheran. Game 1 of the doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m.
