Stars Bounce Back with Sweep at Triton College

River Grove, Ill. – The Dominican University Softball team was back at Triton College for a conference series against the Eagles of Edgewood College.

Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 10
Edgewood: 3

How it Happened:
-Both teams were scoreless in the first, but the Eagles got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning scoring a run on a hit.
-The Stars did not take long to respond scoring 3 runs on a hit and taking advantage of 3 Edgewood errors in their half of the second.
-Senior Emma Woodhouse started the chaos by reaching on an error by the second basemen that scored Freshman Tamiah Jefferson from second base. Freshman Sara Cornell followed it up with an RBI single to centerfield bringing home Woodhouse. The final run of the inning was off the bat of Senior Liliana Santoyo that scored Senior Hanna Voegtle on a ground ball to the shortstop.
-Dominican rallied for 5 more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, on 4 hits and took advantage of 3 more Eagles errors.
-Santoyo started the party in the inning with an RBI single to center field that scored Woodhouse.  Voegtle came around to score on an error by the catcher. Junior Ryley Davis followed this up with a clutch 2 RBI single to center field that brought home Santoyo and Cornell. The final run of the inning was hit off the bat of Junior Paytin Salfi with an RBI double to left field that scored Freshman Isabella Olmos.
-DU took an 8-1 lead into the 5th inning, where Edgewood scored 2 runs on a hit in the top of the 5th.
-Voegtle gave the Stars some insurance runs with a 2 RBI single toe Centerfield scoring Sophomore Kailee Diaz Randall and Salfi.
-Starting pitcher Woodhouse would get the Eagles three-up three-down in the top of the 7th inning to give the Stars the game-one win.

Shining Stars:
-Senior Hanna Voegtle earned the player of the game in this one going 3-4 with 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored
-Senior Emma Woodhouse improved her record to 13-4 on the season going 6.1 innings while collecting 5 strikeouts. On the offensive side Woodhouse 0-2 with 2 walks, and 2 runs scored.  
-Junior Ryley Davis has continued to take a big jump in her junior campaign going 1-4 with 2 RBIs.
-Junior Paytin Salfi came up with an RBI going 2-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and a double.

How it Happened:
-In this game, the Stars got the first run across the board with Freshman Raegyn Davis hitting a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Freshman Sara Cornell in the bottom of the first inning.
-Edgewood responded instantly though, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits in the top of the second inning.
-The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Eagles until the bottom of the fourth when Junior Paytin Salfi delivered an RBI single to center field that scored Freshman Isabella Olmos.
-Once again, the Eagles had something to say about it, scoring a run on 2 hits and a Dominican error.
- The Stars went into the bottom of the seventh inning facing a 3-2 lead, and Dominican showed a lot of fight getting the first three runners on base for a bases-loaded-nobody-out situation. Senior Liliana Santoyo drew a 3-2 walk to tie the game at 3, with Senior Gillian Czubernat scoring. The very next batter Raegyn Davis steps up to walk it off for Dominican and does not get the chance to put a ball in play as she was hit by a pitch on the first pitch of the at-bat and the Stars winning 4-3 with Senior Hanna Voegtle touching home plate on the hit-by-pitch.  

Shining Stars:
-Senior Emma Woodhouse came in relief for DU in the circle in this game going 3 scoreless innings picking up 3 strikeouts and improving her record to 14-4.
-Freshman Rhiannon Rubio got the start in the circle and threw the ball incredibly going 4 innings while collecting 4 strikeouts.
-Freshman Raegyn Davis went 1-2 at the plate with 2 RBIs including the walk-off hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 7th.
-Junior Paytin Salfi continued to swing a hot bat going 1-2 with an RBI.
-Senior Liliana Santoyo went 0-2 with a walk and an RBI and the walk and the walk that tied the game up at 3.

What's Next:
Dominican University Softball moves to 24-8 overall on the season and 15-3 in the NACC and now 3-1 at Triton College. The Stars will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon at the Stadium at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex. DU will host the Lakeland University Muskies on Alumni and Senior Day, the first pitch will be at 12:00 p.m.
