Rosemont, Ill. – The Dominican University Softball team honored 5 seniors this afternoon at The Stadium at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in their final home game of the season. The Stars hosted Lakeland University on senior day.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 4
Lakeland: 3
How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, and the Stars were able to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning with Senior
Hanna Voegtle reaching on a fielder's choice that scored Junior
Paytin Salfi from third base.
-The Muskies responded right away by scoring a run on a hit in the third.
-Lakeland took the lead in the fourth by scoring a run on two hits.
-The Muskies scratched an insurance run in the top of the 6
th inning by scoring a run on 2 hits and taking advantage of a DU error.
-The Stars faced a 3-1 deficit going into the bottom of the seventh inning but did not give up getting the first runner on in Voegtle hitting a single to center field. Freshman
Raegyn Davis pinch-hit for Dominican and crushed a ball off the wall in left field that was an RBI triple for the younger Davis sister. DU was in business with the tying run on third base and the bases loaded with Senior
Priscylla Rutter up to bat. Rutter tied the game up with an RBI single through the right side scoring Senior
Liliana Santoyo and leaving the bases loaded. Salfi came up with the bases loaded and one and a chance to win the game, and the Junior did just that with an RBI single up the middle scoring Junior
Ryley Davis for the Stars second straight walk-off win.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Emma Woodhouse threw her 13
th complete game of the season and improved her record in the circle to 15-4. The senior picked up 3 strikeouts in the 7 innings of work.
-Senior
Priscylla Rutter is finding her way for the Stars going 3-4 and an RBI that tied the game up.
-Junior
Paytin Salfi was incredible for Dominican all game long, making diving plays in right field and going 2-3 with a walk, a run scored and, an RBI that won the game for DU.
-Junior
Ryley Davis went 2-3 with a run scored, a double, and a hit-by-pitch.
-Freshman
Raegyn Davis came in for a pinch-hit opportunity in the 7
th and delivered going 1-1 with an RBI and a triple.

How it Happened:
-Lakeland got off on the right foot scoring three runs on two hits and taking advantage of two Dominican errors in the top of the first inning.
-The score remained 3-0 in favor of Lakeland until the top of the third when the Muskies added a run on a hit in the inning.
-The Stars got on the board in the bottom of the 5
th inning with Senior
Hanna Voegtle hitting a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Senior
Gillian Czubernat.
-Lakeland brought their lead back to 4 runs in the sixth inning scoring a run on two hits.
-DU faced a 5-1 deficit and was looking to come back in the game for the second straight game against Lakeland. The Stars got off on the right foot in the inning with three consecutive singles that led to Freshman
Madisen Butler to pinch-hit with the bases loaded and nobody out. Butler drew a bases-loaded walk that got the rally going. Senior
Liliana Santoyo was the next batter and brought all momentum to the Dominican dugout with an RBI single to center field that brought home Czubernat. The Muskies tried to stop DU in their tracks with a pitching change but Freshman
Isabella Olmos drew another base's loaded walk that brought home Freshman
Sara Cornell and made the deficit just one with the bases loaded and only one out. Freshman
Raegyn Davis was due up next and delivered in a huge way hitting a single to left field that won the game for the Stars, scoring Santoyo from third, and Junior
Leilani Guzman from second base.
Shining Stars:
-Freshman
Rhiannon Rubio came in relief for Dominican and was dominant in her outing. Rubio threw 6.2 innings and collected 6 strikeouts improving her record to 7-2 in her freshman campaign.
-Senior
Liliana Santoyo left the Stadium at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex with a bang going 204 with an RBI and a run scored in her final home game in a Stars uniform.
-Freshman
Isabella Olmos found her way out of the slump going 2-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a stolen base.
-Senior
Gillian Czubernat was massive for the Stars in the comeback win going 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a triple.
-Freshman
Raegyn Davis went 1-4 with 2 RBIs that ended up being the last hit of the game and last runs of the game.

What's Next:
Dominican University Softball moves to 26-8 overall on the season and 17-3 in the NACC after two walk-off victories against Lakeland. The Stars will be right back in action Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader at Elmhurst University. The first pitch between DU and the Bluejays is set for 3:00 p.m.
