Elmhurst, Ill. – Dominican University Softball completed its non-conference slate with a doubleheader at Elmhurst University on Wednesday.

How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings of play.
-The floodgates opened for Dominican's offense in the top of the third inning, which started with an RBI single by Senior
Priscylla Rutter, scoring Senior
Liliana Santoyo. Freshman
Raegyn Davis the drove home Rutter via a triple to center field. Junior
Ryley Davis then knocked a single to right, bringing in the third run of the inning. The Stars were not done, as Freshman
Madisen Butler powered an RBI single to right, scoring Ry. Davis. Sophomore
Emme Slavens then recorded her first collegiate RBI on a single which scored Junior
Leilani Guzman, who pinch ran for Junior
Paytin Salfi. Freshman
Isabella Olmos and Santoyo collected an RBI each to end a thrilling top of the third for the Stars, who ultimately took a 7-0 lead.
-Elmhurst answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third.
-In the top of the fourth, Freshman
Sara Cornell drove a double into left field, which scored Freshman
Tamaih Jefferson and pushed the DU lead to 8-1.
-The Stars continued to apply offensive pressure in the top of the fifth inning, first with Olmos scoring on a wild pitch. Following this, Ra. Davis drove in another run, and Sophomore
Tressa Scanlon was able to reach home on a passed ball.
-DU claimed victory in Game 1 by a final of 11-1 at the end of five innings. 10 different Stars recorded hits in the contest.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Emma Woodhouse picked up her 16
th win of the season in 4 innings of work. The Senior allowed just 4 hits and a run while picking up 4 strikeouts.
-Senior
Liliana Santoyo finished 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
-Senior
Priscylla Rutter went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Junior
Ryley Davis was 2-3 with an RBI, walk, and run scored.
-Freshman
Raegyn Davis continued her stellar freshman season, going 2-4 with a triple, 2 RBIs, and a run scored.

How it Happened:
-The Stars applied early pressure to the Blue Jays in the top of the first inning after Freshman
Raegyn Davis drove in Senior
Liliana Santoyo, who was able to steal second base to get into scoring position.
-DU doubled their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third, which started with Freshman
Isabella Olmos getting hit by a pitch then subsequently stealing second and third. Senior
Priscylla Rutter was able to drive Olmos home with a single to center.
-In the top of the fourth, Junior
Paytin Salfi and Senior
Hanna Voegtle both reached base to begin the inning. Freshman
Kayla Amormino then ripped a single, which scored Voegtle and Junior
Leilani Guzman, who pinch ran for Salfi. Dominican went into the bottom of the fourth with a 4-0 advantage.
-Freshman
Rhiannon Rubio, who got the nod to start Game 2 for the Stars, collected a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth with two strikeouts.
-In the bottom of the fifth, Rubio again pitched a 1-2-3 inning while protecting the DU lead.
-Elmhurst got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the Dominican lead to 4-1.
-Another excellent inning by Rubio closed the door on the Blue Jays, as the Stars swept Elmhurst, winning Game 2 by a final of 4-1.
Shining Stars:
-Freshman
Rhiannon Rubio notched her 8
th win of the season and was sensational in the complete game effort. Rubio allowed just 3 hits and a run alongside 6 strikeouts in the victory.
-Junior
Ryley Davis capped off a solid day with a 2-3 effort at the plate.
-Freshman
Kayla Amormino finished 1-3 with 2 clutch RBIs.
-Senior
Priscylla Rutter was 1-4 with an RBI.
-Freshman
Raegyn Davis went 1-3 with an RBI.

What's Next:
Dominican University Softball improved to 28-8 overall on the season and is 17-3 in the NACC. The Stars will continue their end of the season road swing at Alverno College on Friday, May 2
nd. The first pitch between the two NACC foes for Game 1 is slated for 3:00 p.m.
