Schaumburg, Ill. – The Dominican University Baseball team hosted the Sabres of Marian University on Saturday afternoon for the program's first alumni day.
Game 1 Results:
Marian: 13
Dominican: 7
How it Happened:
-Marian came out swinging in the top of the first inning scoring 4 runs on 5 hits.
-The Stars responded in their half of the inning with Junior
Zach Helein scoring on a wild pitch.
-DU continued to cut into the lead in the bottom of the second scoring 2 runs on 0 hits in the inning. The first run came off the bat of Senior
Gavin Zappe who brought home Junior
Niko Krecu on a grounder to short. Helein got the second RBI on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.
-The Sabres extended their lead back to 2 runs by scoring a run on two hits in the top of the third.
-Dominican continued to fight tying the game up at 5 in the fourth. Junior
Matthew Earley hit an RBI double to center field that scored Sophomore
Ty Phillips. Junior
Tyler Johnson brought home Helein on a groundball to shortstop.
-After trailing 4-0 the Stars took the lead in the bottom of the 5
th with Helein hitting a 2 RBI single to left field that brought home Seniors
Braiden Galvin and
Quinton Schwartz.
-Marian responded in the top of the 6
th scoring 2 runs on 3 hits. This tied the game up at 7.
-From here on out it was all Sabres scoring 2 runs on a hit in the 7
th, and 4 runs on 4 hits in the 9
th with DU unable to get a run across the board.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Zach Helein led the way for Dominican going 2-2 with 2 walks, an HBP, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. One of Helein's hits was a triple.
-Senior
Spencer Anton came in relief for the Stars and went 4.1 innings with 3 strikeouts.

How it Happened:
-The Sabres once again started the party scoring in the top of the first inning, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits.
-DU responded right away with Junior
Matthew Earley hitting an RBI triple to right field that scored Junior
Zach Helein.
-The score remained 2-1 with neither school threatening to score until Marian scored a run on two hits in the 6
th.
-This would end up being the final with Dominican unable to put any pressure on Marian.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Matthew Earley went 1-3 with a walk, a triple, and an RBI.
-Junior
Zach Helein went 1-4 with a double, and a run scored.
-Freshman
Ethan Buckner went 6 innings with 5 strikeouts.

Dominican University Baseball falls to 11-12 on the year and 4-6 in conference play. The Stars will hit the road for a back-to-back road series. The first will be April 9
th, at Benedictine University, first pitch will be at 1:00 p.m.
