Stars Fall to the Gorlocks in Home Opener

River Forest, Ill. – Dominican University Men's Soccer hosted the Gorlocks of Webster University to open up their 2025 season on their home turf Saturday afternoon.

  Results:
  Dominican: 0
  Webster: 2

  How it Happened:
  - Webster found the first shot of the game in the 7th minute that Freshman goalkeeper Cody Leyba saved, but a minute later the Gorlocks had a chance at the penalty spot that they would cash in on to make the score 1-0.
-The Stars got their first shots of the game in the 21st minute, with Juniors Lazar Stamenkovic and Tristen Banquil firing shots off target.
-Webster doubled their lead in the 28th minute with their second goal of the game.
-The score would be 2-0 in favor of the Gorlocks going into the break. Webster had 9 shots in the half to Dominican's 6.
-The Stars had the first three shots of the second half, one by Stamenkovic, one by Sophomore Joshua Trujillo, and the last one by Junior Tristan Manuel. Two of the three shots were on target.
-Banquil for DU put two more shots on target late in the game, but the Webster keeper kept both of them out of the back of the net.
-Dominican and Webster each had 12 shots and 6 shots on goal, but DU had 12 corners to the Webster's 3.
  

  Shining Stars:
  -Junior Tristen Banquil led the Stars in shots on target with 2 of them; Banquil had 3 shots in the game.
-Junior Lazar Stamenkovic collected 3 shots in the match, but none of them found the target.
-Junior Brenton DuBoise brought a sense of energy off the bench for Dominican, having his only shot of the match be on the target.
-Freshman Goalkeeper Cody Leyba collected 4 saves in his first collegiate match.
