Kalamazoo, Mic. - Dominican University Women's Volleyball traveled to Naperville for the North Central Triangular on Friday.
Match 1:
Dominican: 0
Albion: 3
How it Happened:
-The opening of the match saw both teams tied at 6-6 after back-to-back kills by Senior
Lola Butler and Senior
Veronica Henkel.
-Albion pulled away in the middle of the first set as the Stars dropped the opening frame, 25-12. Junior
Lily Broderick had 2 kills in the set.
-Dominican started the second set firing, as a kill and an ace by Butler tied the set at 8-8.
-Albion went on a 9-2 run after and took a 16-9 lead.
-Despite back-to-back aces for Broderick down the stretch of Set 2, Dominican lost the second 25-18.
-DU continued to battle in Set 3, as Sophomore
Fabiana Pizzo strung together a 4-0 run to bring the Stars to within one at 6-5.
-Albion remained tough and defeated Dominican in the third, 25-11.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Veronica Henkel led DU in attacking with 8 kills while adding a block, an ace, and 8 digs.
-Senior
Lola Butler posted 6 kills, an ace, and 7 digs.Â
-Freshman
Karolina Stonkus notched 16 assists in the defeat.

Dominican: 0
Kalamazoo: 3
How it Happened:
-The Stars looked to bounce back in their second match of the day and were deadlocked at 10 with Kalamazoo after a 4-0 run by Senior
Veronica Henkel in the early stages of the first set.
-Dominican continued to fight to win the opener, cutting the Hornet's lead to 23-22.
-Kalamazoo then rattled off the next two points and took the first set 25-22. Henkel had 3 kills and a block in the first.
-DU struggled in the second, falling behind by two sets after dropping Set 2 25-8. Senior Lola Bulter and Henkel both notched kills in the second set.
-The Stars would not go down without a fight, as a block by Freshman
Jillian Ross and Freshman
Karolina Stonkus brought DU within one at 4-3 in the third set.
-Both teams would trade side outs throughout the third. Henkel put away back-to-back kills to cut the Hornet lead to 15-13.
-As Dominican looked to stay alive in the match, Henkel would fire off an ace in the midst of a 3-0 run, and Butler would record a solo block to side the Stars out.
-DU would come up short down the stretch of Set 3, dropping the final frame 25-18.

Lola Butler recorded 6 kills each in the match. Butler added 3 blocks and 4 digs.

Kathryn Ksiezak notched 3 blocks.

What's Next:
Dominican University Women's Volleyball moves to 1-9 (0-1 NACC) on the season. The Stars will be back at home for their final non-conference match of the season against Eureka College on Tuesday, September 30
th. The match is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
