Women Soccer Gears up for North Central After First Win of the Season

Naperville, Ill. – The Dominican University women's soccer team travels to North Central College for their first road contest of the season.


Series History vs. North Central College:
   All-Time Record /Streak/: 1-8-1/L2

-Dominican and North Central's last matchup was September 4th, 2024, when the Cardinals won 4-2.
-The Stars are 1-3 at North Central.
-DU averages 1.3 goals against NCC.
-Dominican has scored 13 goals in the 10 games against North Central.
 
DU in Review:
   -Dominican went 11-6-3 overall in their 2024 season, while going 9-1-2 inside the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
-DU was the third seed in the conference tournament last season, where they won their first matchup against Marian University 2-0.
-The Stars went 8-3-1 at West Campus Field in their 2024 campaign.

Last Time Out:
-Dominican women's soccer earned their first win of the season, beating the Vikings 2-1 at West Campus Field.
  -Senior Natalia Lopez scored the game-winning goal for the Stars in the 80th minute off a free kick. Lopez had 4 total shots, 2 of them being on target in her 90 minutes of play.
-Freshman Logan Shanks was a huge spark plug off the bench for DU, scoring her first collegiate goal. Shanks had 2 shots; both of them hit the target, and one of them found the back of the net.
-Senior Sarah Matuszek collected 2 shots in the game, with both of them being on goal.
-Senior Sierra Rioux added 4 shots this afternoon, and 2 of them found the target.
-Junior Mackenzie Cuddihy notched one of the assists in the first goal. Cuddihy also had a shot on target in the match.
-Freshman Lilana Arechiga collected her first collegiate assist in the first goal of the game.
-Sophomore Meadow Pratt made her first start in net of the season and collected 4 saves.  

Familiar Faces:
-Dominican returns senior Kamryn Klinger, who has been the heart and soul for the Stars as a defensive midfielder. In 2024, Klinger was honored with second team all-conference in the NACC by having 18 appearances and 15 starts for Dominican, while playing 1292 minutes. Klinger was one of the three players from Dominican that represented Team USA in the DIII Soccer Tour.
-Senior Natalia Lopez returns for her senior campaign as a midfielder for the Stars. Last season Lopez had 6 goals, 4 assists, and 25 shots on goal in her 20 appearances through the 2024 season. Lopez was honored with a first-team all-conference in the NACC. In Lopez's three-year career at Dominican, she has scored 18 goals, collected 10 assists, with 4 game-winning goals in her 59 appearances in a Stars uniform.
-Senior Sarah Matuszek will be back in a Stars uniform this upcoming season, where she has been a huge part of the Dominican style of play on the outside. Matuszek is coming off a season where she scored 3 goals, and added 6 assists while appearing in all 20 matches in the 2024 season. Matuszek earned first-team all-conference in the NACC last season.
-Senior Mia Taullahu is back for Dominican this upcoming year and is looking to continue creating havoc on the outside as a forward. Taullahu collected a goal and 6 assists in her 17 appearances in the 2024 season.
-Senior Mia Dosen will be back for the Stars in her second season at Dominican. She will be wearing a new number this season, changing from #34 to #10. Last season, Dosen collected 7 goals and 2 assists with 17 shots on goal in her 20 appearances.
-Sophomore Ariana Barney is looking to take another big step in her second season at Dominican. Barney finished her freshman campaign by having 6 goals and 4 assists in 20 appearances, with this, Barney is tied for the most goal contributions from the 2024 season with 10.

Scouting Report:
-North Central is currently 1-2 on the season, with all three games being on the road. Both Cardinals losses are against ranked opponents in #19 Pomona-Pitzer (3-0) and #22 Illinois Tech (1-0). The win was against the University of Redlands (2-0).
-This will be the home opener for the Cardinals.
-NCC went 16-5-1 in the 2024 season, 7-1 in their conference, and 11-0 at North Central College.
-The Cardinals averaged 3.64 goals per game and 21.4 shots per game, while their opponents averaged 1.36 goals per game and 10.3 shots per game in 2024.
