Stars Fall in First Road Contest of the 2025 Season

Naperville, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's Soccer team hit the road for the first road contest of the season. The Stars traveled to North Central College to play the Cardinals on Saturday morning.


Results:

Dominican: 0

How it Happened:
  - North Central got the first shots of the game, but Sophomore Gianna Stanek made the save in the 13th minute.
-Stanek made 6 saves in the first half, keeping the score 0-0 going to the break.
-Dominican was held without a shot in the first half, while NCC had 11 shots.
-Stanek picked up right where she left off, saving a penalty kick shot in the 63rd minute, followed by a save on the rebound opportunity.
-Senior Natalia Lopez found the first shot of the game for the Stars in the 65th minute, as Lopez put it on target, but it was saved by the keeper.
-The Cardinals got on the board in the 78th minute, converting on a penalty kick.
-Dominican had two shots later in the game, one by Lopez and the other by Senior Sarah Matuszek both saved by the NCC keeper.
-Dominican and North Central both had 4 shots in the second half, but the Stars were outshot 15-4.
  

  Shining Stars:
  -Sophomore Gianna Stanek was incredible in the net for the Stars, collecting 8 saves in the match, including one PK opportunity.   
-Senior Natalia Lopez led the way for DU on the offensive side with 2 shots; both were put on the target.
-Senior Sarah Borsellino had one shot on target in the match.
-Senior Sarah Matuszek added one shot on target to her name in the match.

  What's Next:
Dominican University Women's Soccer moves to 1-2-0 on the season. The Stars will have a week off before their next match, with a three-game homestand on deck. DU will host the University of Dubuque on Saturday, September 13th, with a kick-off time of 12:00 p.m.
