River Forest, Ill. – Women's and Men's Basketball continue to battle for wins in the NACC, Men's Volleyball prepares to begin its season, and Men's and Women's Track and Field began their indoor slate in a busy week for DU Athletics.
Women's Basketball traveled to Milwaukee to take on the Raiders of MSOE on Wednesday. The Raiders' high-powered offense proved too much for the Stars to handle, as DU dropped the game by a final score of 79-40. Junior Kaitlyn Milison led the way for Dominican, posting 11 points on 4-7 shooting, while Junior Lia Saunders chipped in 10 points. The Stars then continued on the road at Marian on Saturday, where a dominant second half powered DU to a bounce-back win over the Sabres by a final score of 69-51. Dominican outscored Marian by 17 in the final two frames and had 28 points in the paint compared to the Sabres' 14. Freshman Kennedy Yost totaled a team-high 18 points alongside 7 assists and 2 steals. Saunders tallied 17 points and was 3-6 from deep. Junior Teagan Dahl posted 14 rebounds, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. The Stars are back at home for a pair of games this coming week, first hosting Rockford on Wednesday, January 14
th, for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. Following Wednesday's contest against the Regents, DU hosts St. Norbert on Saturday, January 17
th. Tip-off for Alumni Day against the Green Knights is slated for 1:00 p.m.
Men's Basketball opened the week with a nail-biter in the Igini Sports Forum against MSOE on Wednesday. The Stars and Raiders could not be separated in regulation, sending the game into overtime tied 71-71. MSOE pulled away in the waning moments of the extra frame, as DU fell by a final score of 85-82. Sophomore Frank Paszkowski had a remarkable performance in the defeat, totaling 34 points, which tied him for 7th place in Dominican's Division III history for the most points in a single game. Paszkowski was 12-22 from the field and 7-15 from three. Senior Adrian Pelszynski added 9 points, including going 3-7 from deep. Following the OT loss to MSOE on Wednesday, Dominican traveled to Marian on Saturday afternoon. After the game was tied 30-30 at the end of the first half, Marian pulled away from the Stars in the second, as DU came up short by a final score of 72-45. Freshman Elijah Daugherty totaled a team-high 19 points on 9-18 shooting while adding 5 rebounds. Paszkowski and Pelszynski added 7 points each. DUMBB will prepare for a road contest at Rockford on Wednesday, January 14
th, at 7:00 p.m. before returning home for Alumni Day against St. Norbert on Saturday, January 17
th. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
Men's Volleyball's season opens on Friday, January 16
th at North Park. The match against the Vikings will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Men's and Women's Track and Field began the indoor season at the Lewis Open on Saturday, January 10
th. Junior Samuel Malke took 1st place in the Men's 600m with a time of 1:28.03, while Freshman Alberto Diaz took 9th place in the Men's Mile with a time of 5:01.83.
Stars of the Week for the week of January 5th to January 11th:
Freshman Kennedy Yost of Women's Basketball received Star of the Week honors. Yost totaled 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists across DU's two games, including an 18-point, 7-assist effort in the win over Marian.
Sophomore Frank Paszkowski of Men's Basketball was named Star of the Week. Paszkowski totaled 41 points, 8 rebounds, and was 8-19 from three. Paszkowski also posted the 7
th most points in a single game with 34 against MSOE on Wednesday.
