Stars Come Up Short at Rockford

Rockford, Ill. – The Dominican University Men's Basketball team made the trip to Rockford to take on the Regents on Wednesday.

Results:
Dominican: 54
Rockford: 71

 How it Happened:
-The Stars got out to a quick start after an opening three made by Sophomore Frank Paszkowski, followed by a three by Senior Dominic Crapia.
-Crapia and Junior Dean O'Brien added a pair of buckets to give DU a 10-6 lead at the 14-minute mark.
-After Rockford gained a 13-11 advantage, Freshman Blaise Brown knocked down a three in response to regain the lead for Dominican.
-The Stars' lead grew to 21-17 after Joseph Jones drilled a shot from deep.
-The Regents answered with a 6-0 run, which was ended with a layup by Freshman Elijah Daugherty.
-Daugherty would knock down a three before the end of the half, but Rockford would take a 28-26 lead into the break.
-To begin the second half, Paszkowski and Crapia would combine for five points; however, the Regents' lead swelled to 44-33.
-Dominican fought to cut into the Rockford lead, with Paszkowski getting to the line and Daugherty finishing in the lane.
-After Rockford took a 59-43 lead, Dominican responded with a 4-0 run that included a layup by Sophomore Ismael Nidaye Matheu.
-The Stars would ultimately fall to the Regents by a final score of 71-54.
- Dominican shot 36.4% from the floor, 30.4% from deep, and 46.7% from the line.

 Shining Stars:
-Freshman Elijah Daugherty paced Dominican in scoring with 19 points alongside 5 rebounds, a block, and a steal.
-Senior Dominic Crapia posted 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.
-Sophomore Frank Paszkowski and Sophomore Ismael Nidaye Matheu added 7 points each.
-Freshman Blaise Brown contributed 3 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 4 steals.

 What's Next:
 The Dominican University Men's Basketball team moves to 1-14 (1-7 NACC) on the season. The Stars will be back at home on Saturday, January 17th, for Alumni Day against St. Norbert College. Tip-off against the Green Knights is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
