Dominican Suffers Defeat to Aurora

Aurora, Ill. – Dominican University Women's Basketball capped off a two-game road stint at Aurora on Wednesday night.

 Results:

 How it Happened: 
-Aurora got off to a hot start, outscoring Dominican 13-2 in the first four minutes of the opening quarter. Freshman Emily Bouaphanh put an end to the Spartans' run with an and-one, followed by Sophomore Allannah Jackson converting a pair of free throws.
-Freshman Eva Herbig hit DU's first three of the night halfway through the opening frame, cutting the Aurora lead to 15-10.
-The Spartans closed out the first quarter with a 19-5 run and took a 34-25 lead into the second.
-Freshman Kennedy Yost and Jackson converted in the lane to open the second quarter to gain momentum for the Stars.
-Herbig would drill her second three-pointer of the evening, followed by another and-one for DU, this time by Senior Kamila Gajkowska.
-Aurora took a 48-28 lead into the break.
-To open the third, Junior Lia Saunders had a 2-2 trip to the line, followed by Herbig's third three-pointer.
-Saunders, Bouaphanh, and Junior Aya Deiri all ran the offense through the pain to keep Dominican fighting, with the Spartans holding a 71-43 lead at the end of the third.
-To open the fourth quarter, Saunders connected from deep, setting the tone for her 13-point fourth quarter.
-Sophomore Danielle Washington recorded her first point of the season from the free-throw line after missing the first 18 games due to injury.
-The Stars ultimately fell to Aurora by a final score of 94-59. Dominican shot 41.5% from the field, 31.8% from three, and 47.1% from the line.
 
 Shining Stars: 
-Junior Lia Saunders recorded a team-high 19 points on 7-14 shooting alongside 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.
-Freshman Eva Herbig contributed 9 points, all from her 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
-Freshman Emily Bouaphanh poured in 7 points and added 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
-Sophomore Allannah Jackson totaled 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.

 What's Next: 
 Dominican University Women's Basketball moves to 8-10 on the 2025-2026 season and is 2-8 in NACC play. DU returns home on Saturday, January 31st, for a Black Out against Edgewood. Tip-off between the Stars and Eagles is slated for 3:15 p.m.
