Dominican Rally Comes Up Short Against Eagles

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's Basketball team returned to the Igini Sports Forum for their final two home games of the season. The Stars hosted Benedictine in their first two-game stretch.

 Results: 
Dominican: 61
Benedictine: 81

 
 How it Happened: 
-Freshman Kennedy Yost got the Stars rolling in the first possession of the game with a made jumper.
-The Eagles then went on a 13-4 run making the score 13-6.
-Benedictine continued to keep their foot on the gas, scoring 26 points in the quarter and holding DU to just 10.
-Dominican shot 25% from the floor in the first quarter, while BenU shot 62.5% from downtown.
-The Stars found their stride in the second quarter, scoring 17 points, and holding Benedictine to just 11.
-The quarter started with Sophomore Allannah Jackson setting the tone with a bucket off a Eagles turnover. Jackson would end up scoring 6 points in the quarter and got help from Freshman Xi Le O'Neill adding 5 points off the bench, including a made three.
-DU shot 50% in the second quarter and only went into half down 10.
-Both teams brought energy in the third quarter with 35 combined points.
-Yost scored the first four points in the third making it a two-possession game in the blink of an eye.
-Dominican got their deficit all the way down to three points, after Sophomore Danielle Washington and Junior Teagan Dahl made buckets.
-Benedictine found a boost going on an 8-0 run to push the lead back to double-digits.
-The final three minutes of the third quarter would be bucket-for-bucket with DU down 11 headed into the final ten minutes of play.
-The Stars had back-to-back quarters with 17 points.
-The fourth was started by a three made by Junior Lia Saunders. Saunders would single handily bringing Dominican back to a six-point deficit after making 6 straight points and 9 of the first 11 in the fourth.
-The momentum was on the DU sideline, until Benedictine converted a four-point play stopping the Stars in their tracks.  Dominican would be outscored 16-6 after this moment in the game.
-Saunders scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.  
 Shining Stars: 
-Junior Lia Saunders big fourth quarter pushed her to leading scorer on the team with 13 points. Saunders also added 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
-Sophomore Allannah Jackson has found her grove on the offensive end scoring 12 points. Jackson also earned 4 steals, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
-Freshman Kennedy Yost has continued to be a huge x-factor for Dominican scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.

What's Next: 
Dominican University Women's Basketball falls to 10-12 overall on the season and 4-10 in the NACC. The Stars will play their final home of the season Saturday, February 14th at 1:00 p.m. against Wisconsin Lutheran. DUWBB will honor their Senior Kamila Gajkowska Saturday afternoon.
