Stars Fall in First Games of 2026

Mankato, MN. – The Dominican University Softball team started its 2026 season with two games at the Bethany Lutheran Dome Tournament on Saturday morning.

Results:
Dominican: 1
Bethany Lutheran: 8

How it Happened:
-The Vikings were the away team and set the tone for the game, scoring a run on a hit and taking advantage of a Dominican error.
-DU threatened in the bottom of the second inning with Senior Ryley Davis hitting a lead-off triple, but the Stars were unable to get a run as the next three batters struck out swinging.
-Bethany Lutheran used that momentum to score 4 runs on 3 hits in the top of the third inning, making the score 5-0.
-Dominican got runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth with Sophomore Raegyn Davis and Ry. Davis having back-to-back hits, Ry. Davis with her second extra base hit, this one being a double. The Stars were still unable to get on the scoreboard, though.
-The score remained 5-0 until the bottom of the 5th inning when Sophomore Isabella Olmos hit a triple to right center field, scoring Sophomore Kayla Amormino from first base to make the score 5-1 in favor of BLC.
-Bethany Lutheran extended their lead in the top of the 7th inning by scoring 3 runs on 4 hits.
 
Shining Stars:
-Senior Ryley Davis got her season going off strong, going 2-3 with a double and a triple.
-Sophomore Isabella Olmos drove home the only DU run on a triple. Olmos went 1-3 on the day.

How it Happened:
-St. Olaf was the home team and opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, scoring a run on no hits.
-The Oles extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits and taking advantage of one Dominican error to make the score 3-0.
-All momentum on St. Olaf's side, the Oles took advantage of that, scoring 5 runs on 7 hits in the bottom of the 4th inning.
-The Stars got a runner to third base, before that runner was caught stealing at home to end the game.
 
Shining Stars:
-Sophomore Sara Cornell went 1-1 with a walk.

What's Next:
Dominican University Softball moves to 0-2 on the season and will be right back in action tomorrow morning at the Bethany Lutheran Dome Tournament. The Stars will take on #5 Saint Mary's, Minnesota, at 8:00 a.m. and then the conclusion of the dome tournament against Hamline University at 1:00 p.m.
