Men's Soccer Alum Spotlight - Gabe Gongora

2/27/2026 10:47:00 AM

Men's soccer and sports information will be taking advantage of the off-season months to catch up with some of our men's soccer alum to reflect on their experience at Dominican University (or Rosary College).  Today we catch up with Gabe Gongora from the class of 2017.

What have you been up to since graduating from Dominican?

A lot has happened over the years. I got married, worked across banking, SaaS, tech sales, bought a condo (then sold it), and most recently moved to Miami.  I began my career in commercial lending, where I leaned heavily on the accounting and finance foundation I developed at Dominican. That experience strengthened my analytical thinking and taught me how to evaluate businesses through both a financial and strategic lens.  I later transitioned into sales, where I built on my interpersonal skill set and focused on developing business cases that supported the organizations I partnered with.  Today, I work in tech sales, helping companies solve complex operational challenges while driving measurable outcomes.  During this time, I also traveled, served as an assistant coach at DU, and fostered a dog during COVID whom I eventually adopted.

What do you miss most about Dominican?
I miss the camaraderie of being part of a team striving toward a shared goal.  Through both good and challenging moments, being able to look around and see others going through the same experience for something we are deeply passionate about is difficult to replicate.

What was your most memorable moment while at Dominican?

There were many, but winning the conference championship stands out the most. It brought a profound sense of accomplishment after a season-long journey and reinforced the value of discipline, resilience, and teamwork.

What advice would you give to an incoming player?
Control the controllables and be comfortable being uncomfortable. These are two mantras that were ingrained in me during my time at Dominican, and ones I still strive to live by every day.  They have shaped how I approach challenges, pursue growth, and perform both professionally and personally.
