Winter Haven, Fla. – The Dominican University Softball team was back on the field and ready to take on Washington College MD and Ohio Wesleyan University in their two games Thursday in Florida.

How it Happened:
- Sophomore starting pitcher
Rhiannon Rubio got the game going in the right way for the Stars, getting the Shorewomen in order.
-Dominican got a one-out single from Sophomore
Kayla Amormino but was left stranded at first in the first inning.
-After back-to-back singles by Washington, the DU defense buckled down and stranded the runners on second and third.
-Another one-out single by the Stars, this one off the bat of Junior
Kailee Diaz Randall. Diaz Randall stole second base but was left stranded 60 feet from home.
-A two-out single by the Shorewomen the runner was stranded at first base.
-Dominican found a spark with Junior
Emme Slavens with a leadoff single. Freshman
Charlie Harris ran for Slavens and instantly stole second base. Amormino has continued to swing the hot bat, hitting an RBI double to right center field, scoring Harris from second. Sophomore
Raegyn Davis followed with an RBI single of her own to center field, bringing home Amormino.
-The Stars took a 2-0 lead to the top of the fourth inning, where Washington College went 1-2-3.
-DU carried that momentum into the fourth inning, with Diaz Randall and Senior
Paytin Salfi starting the inning off with back-to-back singles. Sophomore
Madisen Butler got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Slavens delivers with a 2 RBI single to right field, scoring Diaz Randall and Salfi. Freshman
Isabella Olmos continued the inning with a bunt single to third base, loading the bases for the second time in the inning.
-Senior
Ryley Davis continued the inning with a 2-RBI single to left field, scoring Amormino and Olmos, making the score 7-0. Salfi got the last clutch hit of the inning for DU with an RBI double to center field that scored the Davis sisters to make the score 9-0.
-The Shorewomen got the first runner on base with a lead off single, but a line drive caught by Rubio doubled up the runners. Rubio then finished the game up with a strikeout to end the game.
Shining Stars:
-Sophomore
Rhiannon Rubio was stellar on the mound, going 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts in the shutout win.
-Junior
Emme Slavens was in the DP spot this one and went 2-2 with 2 RBIs.
-Sophomore
Kayla Amormino has continued being a problem for opposing teams, going 2-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, with one of those hits being a double.
-Junior
Kailee Diaz Randall has found her stride in going 2-2 with a run scored and a hit by pitch.
-Senior
Paytin Salfi made it back-to-back days crushing the softball, going 2-3 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, and a double.

Ryley Davis went 1-3 with a run scored and 2 RBIs.

Raegyn Davis went 1-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

How it Happened:
-Dominican was the visitors in game two and started the game going 1-2-3.
-The Bishop started off scoring a run on two hits in the bottom of the first inning.
-DU answered back in the top of the second inning with Junior
Kailee Diaz Randall laying down a bunt for a single. Senior
Paytin Salfi walked right after, putting a runner on first and second for Junior
Emme Slavens who answered the call with an RBI single to left field, bringing home Diaz Randall.
-Sophomore starting pitcher
Hannah Richards helped herself out with a 1-6-3 double play in the inning to hold Ohio Wesleyan to nothing in the inning.
-The Stars kept the momentum rolling with Sophomore
Isabella Olmos leading off the inning with a single and then stealing second base on the next pitch. Senior
Ryley Davis brought home Olmos with a line drive to center field. Salfi followed it up with an RBI single of her own, this one to left field, scoring Sophomore

Madisen Butler came up with the bases loaded and drew a walk that scored Ry. Davis to end the three innings for DU.
-Dominican carried a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the third inning, but OWU responded, scoring a run on 3 hits in their half of the fourth inning.
-DU did not take long to respond, though, with Olmos leading off the inning with a single to right field. Rae. Davis delivered an RBI single to center field, scoring Olmos from second. Dominican had runners on first and third with Ry. Davis on first and Freshman pinch runner
Charlie Harris on third operated a double steal and successfully scored Harris from third.
-The Bishops did not go away easily, though, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits while taking advantage of 2 Dominican errors.
-The score was 6-4 in favor of DU going into the 5
th.
-A two-out double by Sophomore
Sara Cornell is all the Stars got in the top of the 5
th inning, as Cornell was stranded on second.
-Sophomore relief pitcher
Rhiannon Rubio kept Ohio Wesleyan right where they were going, 1-2-3, in the bottom of the 5
th.
-DU went three up and three down in the sixth inning.
-Rubio left runners stranded on first and second in their half of the sixth.
-The Stars tried to squeeze a runner across home by a double steal, but Dominican got tagged out before the runner crossed home.
-OWU scored a run in the bottom of the 7
th inning to get the score to 6-5 before Salfi caught the final out in right field.

Ryley Davis led the way for the Stars, going 2-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.

Dominican University Softball moves to 4-8 on the season and will head to their second day in Florida, being 4-4 so far. The Stars will enjoy an off day before their final competition date in Florida. DU Soft will play Wesleyan University at 10:00 AM EST and Babson College at 12:30 PM EST.
