Davenport, FL. – RV Dominican University Baseball took on Wesleyan (Conn.) in the later stages of the RussMatt Invitational on Friday morning.
Results /10 Innings:

How it Happened:
-The Cardinals opened the game with three runs in the top of the first, including a two-run homer.
-After Sophomore
Parker Linnig posted a zero on the mound in the top of the second, the Stars got to work. Senior
Matthew Earley singled to left, followed by a single by Sophomore
Christian Pogorzelski and a hit by pitch on Senior
Niko Krecu. Earley was then able to reach home from third on a wild pitch. Freshman
Abel Flessner then drove home Pogorzelski with a single to right, followed by Krecu scoring after Senior
Zach Helein was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Freshman
Austin Long continued the onslaught for Dominican, singling to left, which brought Flessner home. Senior
Ricky Powell tacked on a fifth run with a sacrifice fly that scored Junior
Aidan Groberski.
-Linnig posted a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third to reinforce DU's 5-3 lead.
-Wesleyan evened up the ballgame in the top of the fourth with a two-RBI single, then took a 7-5 lead in the top of the fifth.
-In the bottom of the 5
th, Powell sent a solo homer to left, cutting the Stars' deficit to 7-6.
-Both squads slowed down offensively until the Cardinals added a pair of runs at the top of the ninth.
-Trailing 9-6, Dominican had its back to the wall in the bottom of the ninth. The rally started with Long singling to right field, followed by a single to right by Powell. Earley then drew a walk, which loaded the bases with no outs. Back-to-back outs set the bases loaded with two outs for Senior
Tyler Johnson, who pinch hit for Flessner. Down to his last strike, Johnson drilled the ball down the left field line, bringing all the runners home to tie up the game 9-9. The winner would be decided in extra innings.
-Wesleyan struck in the top of the tenth inning, taking a 10-9 lead.
-The Stars were unable to answer in the bottom of the tenth, falling by a final score of 10-9.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Ricky Powell finished 2-5 with a solo shot and 2 RBIs.
-Freshman
Austin Long was 2-5 with an RBI and a walk.
-Senior
Tyler Johnson went 1-1 in his pinch-hit appearance and extended the game with his base-clearing double that scored three runs.
-Senior
Niko Krecu finished 2-3 with a double.
