Schaumburg, Ill. – Dominican University Baseball opened NACC play and its home slate in a doubleheader against the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 4
MSOE: 9
How it Happened:
-MSOE started the game off strong with three runs in the top of the first.
-The Raiders added six more runs at the top of the second to make the score 9-0.
-With the Stars' bats cold, Junior
Max Kurth entered to pitch and recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fourth.
-Kurth continued to stymie the MSOE offense, allowing just three hits between the third and seventh innings.
-In the bottom of the seventh, Dominican began to put together some offense, starting with a single to center by Senior
Niko Krecu. Sophomore
Christian Pogorzelski then reached on an error, and Senior
Tyler Johnson knocked a single to center. Junior
Connor Kalinowski then drove in DU's first run of the game with a single to right, followed by an RBI by Senior
Zach Helein with a single to left. Freshman
Austin Long then reached base via a Raider error, which scored Johnson. Senior
Matthew Earley followed Long's at-bat with a walk, bringing home Kalinowski. The offensive flurry for the Stars was cut short, but Dominican cut the MSOE lead to 9-4 by the end of the seventh inning.
-Sophomore
Koufax Cranmer helped keep the Stars within striking distance with a scoreless inning pitched in the top of the ninth.
-DU could not complete the rally and fell in Game 1 by a final score of 9-4.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Zach Helein was 2-5 with an RBI.
-Senior
Tyler Johnson went 2-4 with a run scored.
-Senior
Matthew Earley finished 1-2 with two walks and an RBI.
-Junior
Max Kurth threw 6 innings in relief for the Stars and only allowed 3 hits.

Game 2 Results (F/7):

How it Happened:
-After a scoreless first inning, MSOE struck first with a solo shot in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
-The Raiders then tacked on two more runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 advantage.
-DU then loaded the bases in the bottom of the third with Senior
Zach Helein on third, Freshman
Austin Long on second, and Senior
Matthew Earley on first. Senior
Ricky Powell drove in Helein with a grounder, as the Stars cut the deficit to 3-1.
-MSOE responded with 3 runs in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-1.
-In the bottom of the fourth, Freshman
Brady Burns led the Stars off with a double. Junior
Aidan Groberski then drove in Burns with a single to left, tightening the score to 6-2.
-A four-run inning for the Raiders in the top of the fifth made the score 10-2.
-MSOE then led 13-3 after the sixth, with the Stars clawing back a run.
-Dominican ultimately fell in seven innings by a final score of 14-3.

Austin Long finished 2-3 at the plate.

Brady Burns went 1-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Ryan McGrew was 1-1 with a double in a pinch-hit appearance.
