Stars Split Series at Concordia Wisconsin

Mequon, Wis. – Dominican University Baseball traveled to Concordia Wisconsin for its first road doubleheader of 2026. 
 
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 4
Concordia Wisconsin: 2

How it Happened:
-Both squads were held scoreless in the first two innings, as Sophomore Alex Vogele recorded a 1-2-3 inning on the mound for the Stars in the bottom of the second.
-At the top of the third inning, Senior Zach Helein powered a double to left field, followed by Senior Matthew Earley reaching base on a hit by pitch. Senior Niko Krecu then tripled to left, which scored Helein and Earley and put DU in front 2-0.
-Voegele continued to halt the Falcons' bats, holding CUW scoreless through the fifth inning.
-Looking to extend Dominican's 2-0 lead, Junior Alex Garcia added a solo shot at the top of the sixth to push the Stars' advantage to 3-0.
-Concordia Wisconsin clawed back a run in the bottom of the sixth, with the Stars still holding a 3-1 lead.
-The Stars could not add any insurance and saw their lead shrink to one after the Falcons fought back to make the score 3-2 after the bottom of the eighth.
-At the top of the ninth, Garcia doubled to center to start the half inning. Freshman Nick Lopez then pinch ran for Garcia and advanced to third on a groundout. Freshman Austin Long then knocked a single to right, which scored Lopez and gave the Stars a 4-2 lead.
-Senior Aaron O'Grady entered the game in relief for Voegele and shut the door on CUW, as the Stars picked up their first conference win by a final score of 4-2.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Alex Garcia finished 2-3 with a home run.
-Freshman Austin Long was 1-5 with an RBI.
-Senior Niko Krecu went 1-3 with a two-RBI triple.
-Sophomore Alex Voegele went 8.0 innings on the mound for the Stars and picked up 6 strikeouts and the win.

How it Happened:
-The Stars struck first at the top of the second after Senior Niko Krecu scored on an error.
-Concordia Wisconsin's offense exploded at the bottom of the second, totaling 10 runs.
-At the top of the third, Senior Matthew Earley tripled to right, followed by a single by Krecu, bringing the Stars back to a 10-2 deficit.
-The Falcons totaled 3 runs at the bottom of the third, pushing their lead to 13-2.
-CUW added another run in the bottom of the fourth, as the Stars trailed 14-2 heading into the top of the fifth.
-Trailing 16-2, Freshman Nick Lopez homered at the top of the sixth for his first collegiate home run.
-The Stars split the day with the Falcons, falling in Game 2 by a final score of 16-3.
 
Shining Stars:
-Senior Matthew Earley finished 2-4 with a triple, double, and run scored.
-Freshman Nick Lopez went 1-1 with his first collegiate home run.  
-Freshman Austin Long was 2-4 with a pair of singles.

What's Next:
Dominican University Baseball moves to 7-11 (1-5 NACC) on the season. The Stars will return home for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader against Rockford on March 31st. First pitch for Game 1 is slated for 1:00 p.m.
