River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Softball team traveled to down Division Street for a rivalry matchup against Concordia Chicago on Sunday afternoon.
Results:

How it Happened:
-The Stars set the tone early in the game by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Sophomore
Isabella Olmost got going early, hitting a leadoff single. Senior
Paytin Salfi followed it up with a double off the centerfield fence. Junior
Emme Slavens brought home the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Salfi. Freshman
Charlie Harris continued swinging her hot bat with a single to third base, which brought Sophomore
Raegyn Davis around to score.
-The momentum stayed in the DU dugout with Sophomore starting pitcher
Hannah Richards getting the Cougars to go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first.
-After Dominican went in order in their half of the second, CUC scored a run on a hit in the bottom of the second.
-The Stars responded quickly, with Sophomore
Kayla Amormino leading the inning off with a double to left center field. Olmos followed it up by laying down a bunt that brought Amormino home.
-Concordia Chicago responded with another run of their own on one hit in the bottom of the third.
-The score remained 3-2 in favor of DU until the top of the fifth inning, with Dominican putting up a three-spot all with two outs. Freshman
Adison Hasse brought home Rae. Davis on a bunt single to the pitcher. Freshman
Erin Kelleher brought home the second run of the inning on a hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored Slavens. Sophomore
Sara Cornell made it a 6-2 game with an RBI single to left field that scored Hasse.
-The Cougars once again responded with a run on two hits.
-In the bottom of the 6
th inning, CUC chipped into the Dominican lead again by scoring a run on a hit.
-The Stars went three up and three down at the top of the seventh inning, meaning DU had a 6-4 lead going into the bottom.
-The Cougars had two runners on with nobody out before DU got the first out of the inning on a ground ball to third base. Concordia Chicago then scored a run to make the score 6-5.
-Sophomore
Rhiannon Rubio came in to close the game out for the Stars and did just that, getting her first batter to line into a double play that ended the game in a big way.

How it Happened:
-This game started slower than the first with a 0-0 tie until the top of the third inning when Sophomore
Raegyn Davis reached on an error by the second basemen that scored Sophomore
Isabella Olmos.
-CUC tied the game up, though in the bottom of the third inning, scoring a run on three hits.
-The Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo homerun to dead center field.
-The Concordia Chicago lead did not last for long with Rae. Davis hit a solo homerun to left field on a 2-0 count that tied the game up at 2.
-DU and CUC remained at two until the top of the 7
th inning, until small ball came alive in the Stars dugout.
-Sophomore
Kayla Amormino led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Olmos and Senior
Paytin Salfi then each laid down bunts that loaded the bases. Rae. Davis once again stepped up in a big spot, reaching on a fielder's choice that scored Amormino. Slavens brought home Olmos on a groundout to the first baseman.
-Sophomore starting pitcher
Rhiannon Rubio still in the circle for Dominican, had a 4-2 lead going into the final three outs of the game. After the dreaded leadoff walk, Rubio buckled down and got the next three batters and stranded the runner at first.

Isabella Olmos was incredible, going 4-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.

Raegyn Davis went 1-4 with a homerun, 2 RBIs, and a run scored.

Dominican University Softball moves to 12-10 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. The Stars will be back in action with their 6-game win streak and continuing their 8-straight road games with a doubleheader against Lakeland University on April 4
th in Plymouth, Wis. The first pitch between the Stars and Muskie is set for 12:00 p.m. in game one.
