Softball Falls in Two Defensive Battles

Winter Haven, Fla.—The Dominican University Softball team was ready for action on day two of their spring break trip. The Stars played Wittenberg in game one and Husson in game two.

Wittenberg: 2

How it Happened:
-The Stars got nothing rolling in the first with a two-out walk, while Wittenberg scored 2 runs on 2 errors in the bottom of the first inning.
-DU went three up, three down in the second inning, while Sophomore starting pitcher Hannah Richards returned the favor to the Tigers in the second.
-After Freshman Adison Hasse reached on an error in the top of the fourth inning, Sophomore Raegyn Davis got the first hit of the game. Senior Ryley Davis brought home Hasse on a single up the middle to get the Stars on the board.
-Richards kept rolling in the fourth inning by getting three outs in five batters. DU went into the 5th inning down 2-1.
-After a leadoff walk by Junior Kailee Diaz Randall, Dominican played some small ball with Junior Mariah Fogerson-McCoy laying down a sacrifice bunt that moved Diaz Randall to second and then third after making the second baseman make an error. Sophomore Kayla Amormino then followed it up with a bunt single to shortstop, then advanced to second with no one covering the base. Amormino and Diaz Randall were stranded on second and third, as the next two batters were retired.
-The starting pitcher Richards throwing her best game in her collegiate career, continued to mow down batters in the fifth inning by getting all three outs in four batters.
-The old-school pitcher's duel continued in the sixth inning with both teams going 1-2-3. Dominican went into the 7th inning down 2-1.
