Aurora, Ill. – The Dominican University Softball team was back on the road after a home series on Saturday. DU Softball played at Aurora on Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened:
-The Stars kept their momentum rolling from the sweep on Saturday to scoring in the top of the first inning. Senior
Ryley Davis hit an RBI single to right field that scored Sophomore
Isabella Olmos.
-Aurora responded instantly by scoring three runs on three hits and the help of one Dominican error.
-DU did not hesitate to punch back by putting up three runs of their own in the top of the second inning. Sophomore
Sara Cornell made it back-to-back days hitting homerun, this one being a lead-off home run. Senior
Paytin Salfi continued the inning with a single to left field that scored Olmos, Salfi advanced to third on an error by the catcher. The final run of the inning came off the bat of Sophomore
Raegyn Davis, who grounded out to second base.
-The Stars held the Spartans scoreless in the bottom of the second inning and took a 4-3 lead into the third inning.
-Ry, Davis got her second RBI of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Olmos and gave Dominican a 5-3 lead.
-Sophomore starting pitcher
Hannah Richards found her stride in this game as the game went on, and included a 1-2-3 fourth inning for the Spartans.
-In the top of the 5
th inning, Sophomore
Kayla Amormino laid down a bunt single to the first baseman that brought home Cornell.
-Dominican kept the pressure on in the top of the 6
th inning with Cornell hitting a 2 RBI single to left field that scored Senior
Leilani Guzman and Sophomore
Tamaih Jefferson.
-The Stars scored in four straight innings and 6 of 7 innings of the game by scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning. The inning started with back-to-back singles by Salfi and Rae. Davis. Junior
Emme Slavens brought home both players on an RBI double to right field. Cornell then continued her fantastic game by bringing home Slavens and Ry. Davis.
-Richards went out for the seventh inning and completed the job by getting Aurora to go in order.
Shining Stars:
-Sophomore
Sara Cornell earned Star of the Game for the second straight day and two times out of the last three games. Cornell went 3-5 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, a homerun, and a double.
-Senior
Ryley Davis has continued to dominate for the Stars, going 3-3 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, and a walk.
-Junior
Emme Slavens has blossomed in the DP spot, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, a double, and a hit by pitch.
-Sophomore
Raegyn Davis has been a workhorse behind the plate, going 2-5 with an RBI.
-Sophomore
Kayla Amormino went 1-3 with an RBI.

Isabella Olmos went 3-5 with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.

How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, and Aurora jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Spartans got their four runs in the inning on five hits.
-The Stars answered by scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore

Sara Cornell. The final run of the inning came off the bat of Sophomore

-AU moved their lead back to three with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third inning.
-The score remained 6-3 in favor of Aurora until the top of the fifth inning, when DU cut into the AU lead by scoring two runs. Salfi continued to swing a hot bat, bringing home Cornell on an RBI single to center field. Senior
Ryley Davis brought home the second run of the inning with an RBI single to center field that scored Olmos.
-In the bottom of the 6
th inning, Auora put up a four-spot on four hits and two Dominican errors.
-The Stars were down 10-5 going into the top of the seventh inning, but did not go down without a fight.
-Salfi hit a solo homerun to left field for the first run of the seventh inning. Junior
Emme Slavens followed it up with an RBI double to center field that scored Freshman
Adison Hasse. DU got the tying run to the plate, but did not get runs across home anymore and fell 10-7.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Paytin Salfi led the way for the Stars in the second game of the doubleheader going 3-4 with 3 RBIs, a run scored, a double, and a homerun.
-Sophomore
Isabella Olmos went 2-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Ryley Davis continued to crush softball's going 1-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Dominican University Softball moves to 15-11 on the season and 9-3 in conference play. The Stars will be back in action Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader at Lakeland University. The first pitch between the Stars and Muskies is set for 3:00 p.m. in game one.
