Waverly, Iowa – #4-seeded Dominican University Softball began the NCAA DIII Softball Tournament against #1-seed University of Redlands on Thursday morning.

How it Happened:
-After the Stars were held scoreless to open the first, the Bulldogs launched a homer at the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
-Redlands doubled their lead at the bottom of the second, with DU still searching for offense.
-Dominican continued to struggle at the plate, and the Bulldogs capitalized, extending their lead to 3-0 after three.
-By the end of the fourth, Redlands pushed its lead to 4-0.
-The Stars continued to fight at the plate, but trailed 5-0 after five innings of play.
-At the top of the sixth, the offense for DU began to shine. Sophomore
Sara Cornell led the half inning off with a single, followed by a single by Sophomore
Kayla Amormino. With runners on first and second, Sophomore
Isabella Olmos sent a ball to left field, scoring both Cornell and Amormino while reaching second on an error. Sophomore
Raegyn Davis then grounded out to second but brought home Olmos in the process. By the end of the sixth inning, the Stars cut the Redlands lead to 5-3.
-Sophomore
Rhiannon Rubio, who entered the game in relief for Dominican, shut the door on the Bulldog's offense at the bottom of the sixth to keep the Stars within two.
-In the end, DU could not complete the comeback and fell in the opener by a final score of 5-3.

Dominican University Softball moves to 29-17 overall on the 2026 season. The Stars will move to the elimination bracket at the Waverly Regional and await the loser of #2 Seed Wartburg and #3 Illinois Wesleyan. The elimination game will be tomorrow, May 15
th, at 1:30 p.m.
