Women's Soccer Battles for a Tie with Dubuque

Dubuque, IA. – The Dominican University Women's Soccer team traveled to the University of Dubuque on Saturday evening for a non-conference match.  

  
Results:  
Dominican: 1  
Dubuque: 1  
  
How it Happened:  
-Dubuque had an early game shot in the 7th minute, which was saved by Junior Gianna Stanek.  
-Dominican fought back with Senior Meghan Wilhite firing a shot which was saved by Dubuque's goalkeeper. Wilhite had another shot a few minutes after that.  

-IWU responded a shot on target, with Stanek coming up big and making a save.  

-Freshman Sydney Asnburg collected her first yellow card of her career. 

-Dubuque fired a shot in the 39th minute, when Stanek collected another save but wasn't able to keep them off the board, with the Spartans getting on the board at the end of the second half.  

-The Stars entered the second half trailing 1-0. 

-The Spartans kept attacking but were stopped by Freshman Sarah Appleby. Appleby had two back-to-back saves.  

-Graduate Student Sierra Rioux tried to get her team on the board but was stopped by the Spartans' goalkeeper.  

-The Stars kept the foot on the gas, with Freshman Riley Brooks and Payton Lemich firing shots that were saved. The DU followed those two shots up with 5 consecutive shots.  

-Dominican got on the board with a late half goal from Wilhite from Rioux. Finishing the game tied at 1.  
 

Shining Stars:  
-Senior Meghan Wilhite fired 6 shots with 3 on target and 1 goal. 
-Graduate Student Sierra Rioux had 3 shots with 2 on target and collected an assist on the Wilhite goal. 

-Freshman Riley Brooks and Freshman Payton Lemich each had 1 shot with it being on target.  

-Junior Gianna Stanek and Freshman Sarah Appleby each had 3 saves.  

-Junior Ariana Barney played all 90 minutes and had 2 shots.
