Stars Win High Scoring Battle at Concordia Wisconsin

Mequon, Wis. – The Dominican University Women's Soccer team headed to Concordia Wisconsin, looking to make it three straight wins on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened:
-Junior Tia Garr got the Stars rolling right off the bat with two shots in the first four minutes of the match. Senior Meghan Wilhite followed it up with a shot in the 5th minute of the match.
-The Falcons took that and used it as some energy by scoring the first goal of the match in the 9th minute.
-Dominican responded instantly with Garr, Wilhite, and Graduate Student Sierra Rioux all firing shot. None of them hit the target.
-In the 11th minute of the match Garr found the equalizer to make the score 1-1.
-The offense was not lacking, though, as these schools went blow for blow. After the goal Junior Ariana Barney put a shot on target, and Junior Goalkeeper Gianna Stanek made her first save of the match in the 15th minute.
-Stanek stayed busy making another save in the 28th minute of the match.
-Freshman Grace Durante came in off the bench for the Stars and did not take long to make an impact as she fired a shot in the 29th minute of the match.
-DU kept the foot on the gas with Barney and Sophomore Kylena Paredes earning shots, but neither found the target.
-Durante continued to put pressure on the defense as she scored in the 42nd minute of the match to give the Stars a 2-1 lead. Barney assisted on the goal.
-Stanek stood tall in the net again, making a save in the 43rd minute of the game, with Durante adding another shot on target in the 44th minute of the match.
-On the counterattack the Falcons tied the match up at 2 right before the break, scoring in the 44th minute.
-Dominican had 13 shots and 4 corner kicks in the first half.
-The Stars did not wait to put the pressure back on CUW with 6 shots in the first 17 minutes of the second half. Barney, Rioux, Freshman Payton Lemich, Freshman Azara Waite, Senior Rachelle Pinto and Freshman Sydney Ansburg all earned shots. 4 of the 6 shots were on frame.
-The Stars did not slow down in the 64th minute, with Rioux giving DU a 3-2 lead. Durante assisted on the goal.
-Junior Presley Coles and Waite each earned a shot in the middle portion of the second half. Waite's shot on frame.
-Junior Sara Knight gave the Stars a 4-2 lead in the 76th minute of the match as she scored her first collegiate goal.
-The Falcons responded right away, cutting the Dominican lead to 4-3 in the 77th minute of the match.
-DU kept the ball away from CUW in the final 10 minutes of the match and looked for the 5th goal as Wilhite, Garr, and Durante collected more shots.
-Dominican earned 13 shots in the second half while collecting 26 shots in the match. 12 of those shots were on target. The Stars also had 9 corners in the match.
 
Shining Stars:
-Junior Ariana Barney earned Star of the Match in the win, collecting an assist with 4 shots. 2 of those shots were on target. Barney played all 90 minutes.
-Graduate Student Sierra Rioux has been an incredible veteran presence on this squad, and that continued tonight as she scored a goal on 2 shots.
-Freshman Grace Durante has continued to be an offensive threat as she scored and assisted on a goal this afternoon. Durante collected 4 shots, with 3 of those shots being on target.
-Junior Tia Garr has been on a tear offensively, collecting 5 shots while scoring a goal.
-Junior Sara Knight earned her first goal in a Stars kit on her only shot of the match.
-Freshman Azara Waite has been a great addition to the DU backline and tonight showed her offensive talents with 2 shots on target.

What's Next:
Dominican University Women's Soccer moves to 6-2-2 on the season and 4-1-0 inside the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference. The Stars will now have a week off until their next contest. They will travel to Aurora University on October 7th for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against the Spartans.
