Women’s Soccer Edged By Defending NAC Champs

The Dominican University women’s soccer team had their 11-game win streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Aurora University Spartans on the road, 1-0. The loss drops the Stars to 12-3-0 overall and 9-1-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference while lifting the Spartans, the 2009 NAC Champions, to 10-5-1 overall and 7-0-1 in conference play.
The Spartans’ Brook Walendzik broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute, scoring on one of Aurora’s seven corner kick opportunities in the game.
Dominican’s Megan Schulz (Redford, Mich.) logged four saves in the losing effort, allowing just one goal despite facing 20 shots from the high-powered Aurora offense.
Dominican managed nine shots in the contest, putting three on frame. Sophomore Kelly Gerwitz (Florissant, Mo.) attempted three shots, all in the first half, putting one on goal.
Dominican will return to action on Saturday, hosting the Wartburg College Knights in non-conference action. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. on Dominican’s West Campus Field. The Stars then host Lake Forest on Tuesday, October 19th, before closing out the 2010 regular season with MSOE and Alverno College.
