Trailing 7-0 heading into the top of the seventh, the Dominican University baseball team sent nine hitters to the plate, to score five runs in a 7-5 loss at the hands of the Monmouth College Fighting Scots.
Freshman
Alfredo Herrera (Chicago, Ill.) started a one-out rally, drawing a walk and then scoring on
Matthew Ortiz’s (Chicago, Ill.) double to left. Casimir Zwiazek (Chicago, Ill.) drew a walk to put runners on first and second. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Jonathan Basinksi (Chicago Ridge, Ill.) and
Chad Polak (Westchester, Ill.) walked and were hit by a pitch respectively to push a run across and load the bases.
Chris Kemp (Oak Lawn, Ill.), the Stars’ leading hitter on the season, then doubled into the right center gap, clearing the bases and bringing the tying run to the plate. Monmouth’s Chase Harris, struck out
Chris Garvey (Niles, Ill.) to end the threat.
Left-hander
Zach Roszak (South Chicago, Ill.) took the loss on the mound for the Stars, surrendering seven runs, four earned, on eight hits and four walks while striking out four over six innings. The Stars’ defense did not help Roszak much, committing five errors in the ballgame, leading to three runs for the Fighting Scots.
