The Dominican University baseball team slipped to 1-4 on the team’s annual spring trip to Fort Myers, Fla., with an extra innings loss to the Thiel College Tomcats, 12-11, on Wednesday.
After junior Chris Kemp (Oak Lawn, Ill.) ripped a two-out RBI single to left to plate Casimir Zwiasek (Chicago, Ill.) and gave Dominican a 10-9 lead in the top of the 11th, the Stars’ Sean Bolton (Western Springs, Ill.) gave up two unearned runs after a costly Dominican error, their fourth of the game, to give Thiel their fourth straight win.
Bolton was the Stars’ sixth pitcher of the contest, making his first appearance of the season, and scattered two hits and two walks over the final two and one-third innings while striking out three in the losing effort.
Offensively, the Stars rapped out 15 hits, led by Kemp who went 4-for-6 with a pair of RBIs. The Stars’ slugger is batting .526 on the trip, going 10-for-19 through the first five games. Zwiasek was on base four times in the ballgame, going 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and three runs scored.
Dominican has three games remaining in Fort Myers, including tomorrow’s matchup with the Monmouth College Fighting Scots. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM ET.
