The Dominican University men’s tennis team split a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) dual matches on Sunday, topping the Lakeland College Muskies 8-1 before falling the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 9-0.
Against the Muskies
Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and
Gregory Tabaka (Chicago, Ill.) led the way. The pair teamed for an 8-1 win at number one doubles, improving to 4-3 as a doubles team. Amarantos then picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lakeland’s Tom Kuehl at number one singles while Tabaka won in straight sets at number two singles (6-0, 6-0) over Lakeland’s Yu Sasaki.
Marco Colapietro (Norridge, Ill.), playing for the first time at number three singles, picked up a point, topping Lakeland’s Kazuya Hosokawa 6-0, 6-2.
The Stars were then swept by the Falcons. Tabaka came the closest to stealing a point for the Stars, falling to Concordia Wisconsin’s Pat Schramka 7-5, 6-4 at number two singles. The sophomore stands at 5-6 on the season in singles play and 4-2 in NAC play.
The Stars are now 4-7 on the season and 3-3 in conference dual matches.
