The Dominican University softball team threw ten-innings of no-hit softball to pick up a pair of wins over the Rockford College Regents on Saturday afternoon and improve to 4-0 in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play.
Jori Cicale (Steger, Ill.) faced just 16 hitters in a five-inning complete-game victory in game one to improve to 4-1 on the season. Cicale hit the first hitter in the top of the second before retiring the next 12 in a 9-0 win for the Stars.
Emily Mahoney (Crystal Lake, Ill.) then tossed a no-hitter in game two, allowing one run on a pair of fourth inning walks, to improve to 5-3 on season.
Mahoney provided a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth in game one to put the game out of reach at 8-0. The sophomore DP went 2-for-2 with a walk at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Gina Palumbo (Northlake, Ill.) drove in a pair of runs with an RBI double and an RBI single, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Sarah Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs scored to provide a spark at the top of the Stars’ lineup.
In game two the Stars’ offense pounded out nine hits, including a 3-for-4 performance from Budz with a two-run home run and three runs batted in.
Dominican stands at 10-4 on the season and returns to NAC play on Thursday, April 7, hosting the Edgewood College Eagles. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM at the Stars’ fields in Forest Park.
