The Dominican University men’s tennis team picked up wins in a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) dual matches on Saturday, rolling past Marian University 9-0 before edging Edgewood College 5-4.
Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.) went undefeated on the day, topping Marian’s Jory Lawson 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 and Edgewood’s John D’Orazio 6-3, 6-0 at number one singles and teamed with
Greg Tabaka (Chicago, Ill.) at number doubles, picking up two more points in doubles play.
Amarantos improved to 6-2 against NAC opponents with just one conference dual remaining. The freshman standout is 6-4 in his last ten singles matches and is 9-4 in doubles play with Tabaka and
Andrew Vatterott (St. Louis, Mo.) his two partners at one doubles this season.
Alex Dee (Park Ridge, Ill.) and
Matt Sarantopoulos (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) both went undefeated in singles play on the weekend. Dee picked up a win by default at number six singles over Marian before topping Edgewood’s Vince Jankiewicz 6-4, 6-1 while Sarantopoulos knocked off Marian’s Andrew Bales 6-1, 6-0 and Edgewood’s Cody Strebig 6-4, 7-5 at number three singles.
The Stars will wrap up the regular season next Saturday, travelling to Rockford College to take on the Regents. With a win, the Stars will secure their spot in the 2011 NAC Men’s Tennis Team Tournament which will begin play on Monday, May 2.
