Men’s Tennis Splits NAC Duals

The Dominican University men’s tennis team split a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) dual matches on Sunday to move to 2-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
The Stars opened the day blanking the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, 9-0. Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Gregory Tabaka (Chicago, Ill.) and Marco Colapietro (Norridge, Ill.) swept through their singles opponents in straight sets at numbers one, two and four singles respectively. Matt Sarantopoulos (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) posted a victory over the Warriors’ David Parez 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles while Efrain Rodriguez (Cicero, Ill.) won at number five singles 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, Amarantos and Tabaka won at number one doubles 8-0 while Sarantopoulos and Colapietro topped the Warriors’ number two doubles team by the same 8-0 count. Rodriguez and Alex Dee (Park Ridge, Ill.) won by forfeit at number three doubles.
In the afternoon match, it was the MSOE Raiders over the Stars 9-0. Amarantos and Dee came the closest to earning points for the Stars. Amarantos captured the first set 6-7 before falling in the second set 6-4 and then dropping the tie-breaker set 10-2 at number one singles. Dee fell at number six singles 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.
Dominican will return to the courts on Tuesday, traveling to Aurora to take on the Spartans. The Stars will then host the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons and Lakeland Muskies next Saturday.
