The Dominican University men’s tennis team advanced to the semifinal round of the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Men’s Tennis Tournament with a 5-1 win over the Edgewood College Eagles on Monday afternoon.
The Stars grabbed two points in doubles play with
Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and
Greg Tabaka (Chicago, Ill.) topping Edgewood’s number one doubles team 8-6 and
Efrain Rodriguez (Cicero, Ill.) and
Alex Dee (Park Ridge, Ill.) edging the Eagles’ number three doubles team 8-6.
Then in singles play Amarantos, Tabaka and
Matt Sarantopoulos (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) swept the Eagles one through three singles to seal the best-of-nine match. Amarantos topped Edgewood’s John D’Orazio 6-0, 6-4 while Sarantopoulos knocked off Cody Strebig 6-3, 6-2. Tabaka earned his victory, topping Max Divelbiss 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Stars will take on the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons, the NAC regular season champions, in the semifinals on Friday at the Kohler Sports Core in Kohler, Wis. The match is slated for a 1:00 p.m. first serve with the tournament championship to follow at 5:00 p.m.
