Home Opener Clouded By Thunder

Box Score The Dominican University baseball team hosted the Wheaton College Thunder on Saturday afternoon in the 2012 home opener for the Stars, but the Thunder quieted the Stars' bats while banging out 11 hits of their own in a 9-0 victory for the Thunder.

Sophomore right-hander held the Stars scoreless, scattering four hits over eight innings to improve to 3-0 for Wheaton while Dominican University senior right-hander Sean Bolton (Western Springs, Ill.) fell to 3-1 on the hill.

Offensively, the Stars managed just four hits, including a bunt single by Adam Quinn (Libertyville, Ill.).

The Thunder jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first as Trey Martin blasted a three-run home run to left field.  In the top of the sixth with the Thunder ahead 7-0, Drew Golz added a solo shot of his own to extend the lead for Wheaton.

The loss drops the Stars to 5-6 on the season after starting the campaign 4-0 while the Thunder improved to 8-4.  Dominican will return to the diamond on Tuesday, traveling to North Park University to take on the Vikings before returning to Schaumburg Baseball Stadium next Saturday, hosting Millikin University for a 12:30 PM doubleheader.
