Box Score 2 Junior right-fielder had quite the afternoon, knocking out a pair of walkoff singles as the Dominican University baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Millikin University Big Blue on Sunday afternoon, taking both games by counts of 4-3.
Sean Bolton (Western Springs, Ill.) improved to 4-1 on the mound as he picked up the complete-game victory in game one, scattering nine hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out three.
Trailing by a run in the bottom of the third, Quinn gave the Stars offense a much needed jolt, roping a two-out double to left. Â
Jon Basinski (Chicago Ridge, Ill.) pushed Basinski across with an RBI single to center and then scored on a double off the bat of
Lenny Cunzalo (Chicago, Ill.) to put the Stars ahead 2-1 after three innings.
Dominican added a run in the bottom of the fourth as
Tim Dernulc (Dyer, Ind.) scored on a
Richie Green (Chicago, Ill.) sacrifice fly.
Bolton pitched around a leadoff single in the top of the fifth and then set the Big Blue down in order in the sixth, however, Millikin was able to even the score in the top of the seventh as Kyle Davidson singled ahead of a David Peters' double to start the inning. Â Davidson scored on a ground ball booted by
Chris Kemp (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Peters came across as Dan Weber grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to tie the score at 3-3.
Tim Varrallo (Chicago, Ill.) lined a one-out double to left-center in the last of the seventh to set the table for Quinn who lined a sharp single to center for the game one victory.
Quinn, Basinski and Cunzalo, the Stars one, two and three hitters combined to go 6-for-10 at the plate with three runs batted in.
Game two followed a similar pattern as Millikin, trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh, forced extra innings as Theo Facer cracked a one-out RBI single to even the score at 2-2. Â Faced roped another RBI single in the top of the ninth to give the Big Blue a 3-2 lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
In the Stars' half of the ninth,
Garrett Flavin (Chicago, Ill.) laced a one-out single through the left side followed by a bunt single by pinch-hitter
Casey Zwiazek (Chicago, Ill.). After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners up 90-feet, Quinn roped a single back through the box to plate both Flavin and Zwiazek and send the Stars home with their first extra-inning win of the season.
Zack Roszak (South Chicago, Ill.) picked up the win on the mound, throwing two and two-thirds innings in relief of
Mitch McCaffery (Johnson Creek, Wis.) who made his first start of the season.
The doubleheader victory improves the Stars to 7-7 on the season while dropping Millikin to 3-11. Â Dominican will return to the diamond on Wednesday, hosting the Elmhurst College Bluejays for a non-conference matchup at the Schaumburg Baseball Stadium.
